SOURCE: Printer is on but cannot print
if your power light is off and the paper and ink lights are flashing try this.
1. remove all the paper,
2. open the cover and check for paper jam
3. make sure the ink cartridge lid is securley in place by opening and re closing the ink cartridge lid
reclose the lid, disconnect the power supply and hold the power button for 30 seconds. reinstall the power plug and turn the printer back on.
hope this helps

SOURCE: printer showing error
If both lights are flashing, it means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. The Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility - download from
and use it to reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.
However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer. This is quite straightforward once you know what to do.
If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, post a new comment, and I will provide further help.

I had this problem, turned out to be paper wedged too firmly in the intake tray. If you have this problem check for any obvious blockages such as the one I described.

The Epson Stylus Color 880 has 4 LEDs. If all 4 are flashing or
blinking then the printer has a maintenance request error. It means that
the waste ink counter has reach its limit. The remedy is to replace the
waste ink pads and reset the waste ink counter. You can use the SSC service utility to reset the protection counter. You can download the utility from here http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html
You can also use the control paler to reset the counter. Timing is the key to success when you reset the counter using the control panel so keep that in mind. To reset the protection counter using the control panel (front panel):
Step 1.Turn the power on while holdint the following buttons doen. Paper feed, cleaning button. (thr paper out light will flash for 3 seconds)
Step 2.While the paper out light is still flashing press the cleaning button for 10 seconds. The following leds will flash in sequence Ink out lights black and color, Paper out light. Once the printer starts to initilize the counter should be reset. This will reset the protection counter.

unplug the printer and plug bag in. power up the printer. restart your computer, then try to print again.
if the printer won't power on at all. try clicking all the buttons on the printer, including the red blinking ones. one at a time. if this desn't work, turn off computer, search for the computer's driver software online and download it and reinstall it on your computer, following ALL directions. keep printer plugged in to your computer while your doing this
