You may have thermostat problems. If the blower and compresssor kicks on, that indicates their ok. If you have a two wire thermostat, you can tie those wires together to see if the unit will operate. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT POWER.

SOURCE: compressor want kick on not cooling fan works

you need to check the fuses at the disconnect near the condenser outside. if they are blown then replace. Be very careful this is typically 208 vac and will hurt ya. If the power failure occured and then came back on soon, the unit needed to equalize and tried to start under a load. The remedy for this is to install a time delay on cool call about 2 minutes. they sell thermostats for this or you can install an adjustable delay inline with the yellow wire going to the contactor on the condenser.

LG window air unit. Been having trouble with control panel for months, but unit cooled. Now it will light up and fan will blow, but compressor does not kick in. Unit about 4 years old.

Possibly a faulty run capacitor in the control box. This is fairly common to LG. the fan motor and compressor use them to start and run more efficiently and when they fail the fan or compressor either don't start at all or run poorly. You can usually tell if you can hear the compressor 'hum' briefly then stop every 10 - 30 secs. this is the compressor trying to start but unable due to the faulty part. LG often have a dual capacitor (two capacitors in one case) so the fan may stop working also or at least run slower. They are common parts available at most electrical wholesalers although the genuine LG parts are normally dirt cheap. Need a model to check the circuit diagram to be more certain.

Auto/On set to ON. Fan runs.

Sounds like the thermostat, the way to verify is to unplug indoor unit, remove thermostat, take pic of wiring with phone or label the wires as to the terminals. Carefully twist the yellow,(Y) Red (R) and the green (G) together. Plug the furnace back in, if the unit operates normally, replace the thermostat. I am basing this on the fact that the blower speed is changing. This could also be an anomaly within the circuit board in the furnace section, not likely though as the outside unit (condenser) is not controlled n by the indoor board unless this is a heat pump. hope this helps. I have a 1991 MBZ 2.6 Liter. The front has two fans that are in front of the radiator...All of a sudden the fans are running, when the motor is running; Please tell me what the fans are for ,and why they...

The fans are radiator cooling fans. They are temperature controled so when you first start your engine in the morning they should not run - UNLESS you start it with your AC on. If you turn your AC on one of them should start operating and the other one will kick on when your engine starts getting hot.

I have an amana 90 home air conditioner w/ a amana prestige compressor. compessor runs but cooling fan not turning ,fan is not locked up and unit has power .of course w/fan not turning home is not...

Could be a couple of reasons for this:
1. Condensor fan motor bad.
2. Condensor fan motor loss of power.
3. Condensor fan motor capictor bad.

Unit has control for fan for low ambient operation and unit is low on freon telling fan its cold out side and dont run.
Hope this helps. wally

Thanks for your detailed information. But solution is very simple. The compressor contactor in out door unit. Struck. And hence, when you power on, without indoor commanding, the out door starts running.

Replace same type Contactor relay (In out door unit) immediately. Hope, it's helpful.

Compressor not kicking in on 'cool'; or ;dry'

Have you checked that the controls are not set to fan only? If you have lets go to the next step. All window A/C have thermal switch.. These thermal switch keeps the compressor from overheating. In the event that the compressor is overloading it would trip then click back on as the compressor cools down. Sometimes those switches go bad but the compressor is ok. They are mounted on the compressor themselves and accesable once the A/C unit cover has been opened.

You say temp fan?If you mean the cooling fans, then the ac is out of freon most likely, the freon has to be in the system, and enough to kick the compressor on,therefore turning the cooling fan on.

Won't "kick" on

need a little clarification but will try to answer....if the fan is not spinning or no air is coming out, then try taking off the front cover and spinning the fan by hand (With unit unplugged). it should spin freely and not feel rough or stop suddenly. if so the fan motor is bad. now if the fan motor works but the air does not cool then the compressor is not turning on in which case either 1. you are too low on freon (leak), 2. the compressor has gone bad, or 3. there is a wiring problem or bad run capacitor. i find it odd that this would happen to 2 units over the same storage period, any out-of-the ordinary environmental situations there? water damage? it could simply be a wiring short also.
