It does not sound like a battery problem from the info provided. It sounds like your battery terminal post is not connecting at the battery. A cable may have a bad connector end on it and the car runs on the alternator once started. Buy a ten dollar volt/ohm meter and check the ohms resistance in the cables by removing the cables from the battery first and then connecting the test leads to the ends of each cable. The meter should read the same as if the leads we're connected to each other. To test the battery change the ohm meter setting to read volts DC in the 20 to 50 volt range and connect red to positive ( + ) side of battery and black lead to negative side ( - ) of battery. Battery must read more than 11 volts for most modern cars to engage the starter circuit, most working batteries will show more than twelve volts. Jump Start the vehicle with the battery connected and with the booster battery disconnected again test the voltage and it should read 14.5 to 15.5 volts. you may need to replace one or both cables or have the ends at the battery replaced. obviously the cables that run the starter are good or a booster battery would not work either. good bluck.

If you have checked the battery terminals and cables and they are ok then here is something you can do if you have a volt ohm meter. There is a chance that there is a steady drain on the battery. Remove one of the cables and see if there is a spark when making or breaking contact at the terminal. If there is then find the fuse box and as you remove each fuse check across the fuse box terminals for current. If you find polarity then the circuit is being energized. Check again at the terminal for spark and leave the fuses out till there is no more spark. Then test each circuit again. You should be able to determine which circuit is causing the power drain. Remember that any open doors or accessory circuits may cause a power drain if they automatically shut off when leaving the vehicle. You would have to wait for these to shut down each time you open a door or turn on the ignition. Should help to diagnose the problem circuit.

2000 BMW 5series. battery will not stay charged. please advise

SOUNDS LIKE THE BATTERY CABLE ENDS NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE BATTERY IF A BOOST WORKS AND THE BATTERY DOES NOT.. YOU NEED TO ALSO CHECK THE CHARGING VOLTAGE WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING - IT SHOULD BE MORE THAN 14.4 VOLTS. IF A NEW BATTERY WILL NOT START THE CAR AND A BOOST WILL CHECK THE CABLE ENDS AT THE BATTERY .. IF THE CAR BATTERY WILL START THE CAR WHAN INSTALLED AND NOT START IT AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE THEN SOMETHING IS DRAINING THE BATTERY. IF THIS IS VTHE CASE THEN TRY HITTING THE MANUAL DOOR LOCKS FOUR OR FIVE TIMES EACH BTIME YOU LOCK THE CAR. DO NOT USE THE FOB OR REMOTE TO LOCK THE CAR.

I have a 2000 BMW Z3 that has sat for about a year. I started it periodically and it always started right up. I went to start it one time and the battery was dead. I charged the battery and tried again....

Hi,
I think that if the battery went completely flat the vehicle may have lost the security code, or the same can have happened if you did not follow the boost charge instructions when starting. If that has happened you'll need to have the unit re-encoded by a dealer. Keep in mind that starting a vehicle periodically is good but if you don't run it as well the battery will become exhausted and finally fail. The start up of any engine drains more power from the battery than any other operation. You need to start it and give it a run.

My bmw 330ci charging light flickers now n again n battery keeps goin flat can anyone help plz

Hi Neil,
Is there any squealing type noise particularly on start up of the car. If so it could be a loose/slipping belt. This is easy to check out yourself, or you may have a somewhat mechanically knowledgeable friend to have a quick look. If not, then with the engine stopped and cold, pull that belt you see on the front of the engine up and down to. There should be about half an inch (13mm) or so of movement. If its more then the belt may be too loose and need tightening.

If it appears fine then there may be a problem with the alternator, possibly the pulley bearing starting to fail and hence you only see the light flicker occasionally as it is not spinning fast enough to keep the battery charged. Failing that, it could simply be that the battery is worn out and unable to retain enough charge. The battery is in the boot under the toolkit and needs care when replacing.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Why does the heater blower stay on when the car is turned off and the keys removed its a bmw

are you talking about the fan blower inside the car or the fans under the bonnet..? the fans under the bonnet may stay on for a while after the engine is switched off to prevent heatsoak. This is when the engine actually heats up more after switch off due to latent heat within the engine. The fans will remain on until the coolant temperature has fallen and stabilised, then the fans will stop. If the blower fan inside the car keeps running, this may be a feature on the car to assist with heat soak but I would think this is more like a faulty power relay or fan controller if the car has climate control..In this case, my advice would be to consult a qualified autoelectrician.

2000 BMW 323 fan keeps running under hood and has now run battery down. What could be the problem.

Hi,
First - disconnect fan and charge your battery - or you could do permanent damage to it.

With the engine cool, locate the Fan thermal switch. It should be on the radiator itself. Pull off the connection (this should turn off the fan)

Check the two terminals with a meter as they should not conduct when cool.
Fit a replacement. You may loosa a little coolant - but not too much if you are quick.
Top up with similar type.

If the fan switch is ok, it may be a relay which has stuck. This should be located at the end of the fan wiring loom.

Someone please help!!!! I have a 2000 buick

A cam sensor only helps the computer when cranking and should not make it cut off. Most cam sensors do not go bad, but he magnet on the timing gear will deterorate. To fix that the timing cover will have to come off. Replace the crank sensor they get hot and stop working. When they cool down they will work again until it gets hot.

Low volts light stays on

new altenator or junkyard one.if new return it, if junkyard just ignore light as its odds on they will not change it .the red light is caused by the difference in the voltage between input and output voltages .Quick test --start engine and run at 1500rpm disconnect battery and turn everything electrical on and if engine stops then change altenator if it stays running then altenator is OK
