Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
I have a 60GB PS3 that I bought used off eBay from a reputable reseller, and I have checked all functionality - blu-ray support, wifi, ethernet, ps2 games, ps3 games, etc. and everything works.
Note that everything I've done so far has been offline - I'm not talking about online lag here.
The problem is that the system seems to struggle sometimes when playing games - for example, I bought LittleBigPlanet brand new and installed the game, during the installation process the whole thing just got stuck (controls were still responsive) and I couldn't progress past the install screen.
When playing LBP sometimes the system will just "seize" up for a moment or two, usually when there is new content being loaded, i.e. I goto a new screen or new music is playing, etc.
I have noticed these exact same things happen on Resident Evil 5 and UFC 2009 both of which I bought brand new, like on UFC 2009 I will be throwing a punch and the whole game will freeze for 4-5 seconds and then the game continues as if nothing happened (the CPU will not have had any chances to punch me or anything). Additionally, sometimes when playing UFC 2009, the background music will terminate in between load scenes - i.e. I'm about to go into a fight and my name is getting announced, I hit "X" to skip this part and when the fight actually loads all background music is gone until I finish the fight and the next load occurs.
I have a feeling that this issue could either be my a) HDD, b) RAM, or c) processor. I have checked all fans on the PS3 and everything is blowing air in/out (the air is pretty warm) - but I have not noticed any correlation between these jitters in performance and play time (sometimes it'll happen at startup when the system is still cool and sometimes it won't happen at all even after 3 hours of playing).
My guess is that it's a HDD problem because I have noticed that downloaded content (such as demos) routinely suffer from this problem whereas when I'm playing blu-ray movies for 5 hours straight (like Planet Earth) I do not notice any stutters at all.
Does anyone have any ideas?

SOURCE: PS3 freeze
hey guys i fixed this...
its over heatings the CPU and GPU
you need to disassemble it... http://www.llamma.com/PS3/repair/PS3_disassembly_tutorial.htm
then you need to replace the thermal compound with artic silver 5 as the stuff sony has put on is very dry and cracked, i have done this 4 7 of my mates PS3'S and they all work fine.
only do this if its out of warrently, if you removin the sticker on it, it shines through void

The 405 nm 10 mw blue violet laser gets whats called thermal kinks in the
optical medium .There hard to weed out in batches of KGD (Knowen Good Dies) . the
problem will arise as the laser diode cycles 400-600 times which puts it right in your-living room
when it starts failing. sound like the Laser.
