Can't unzip .zip files

I have Windows Vista 64 Vista Home Premium. My zip files cannot be unzipped. When I click on a .zip file the screen starts flashing and multiple windows open up and the process cannot be stopped even with task manager. I have to log off to stop the process. I've tried this with three different .zip files. One was a downloaded program (safe - it was downloaded from cnet download.com). I suspected it was the program so I tried a file of photos I had - same thing. Last I tried a zipped document file. All with the same result. This must be a recent happening, but can't relate it to anything that was installed. How do I restore this function? It used to be so easy to change file type associations and it just can't be done now, at least not in this case. By the way, I tried one fix which was going into command prompt and putting the file association in there. I guess the unzip function has been corrupted somehow. What can I do? Really prefer not to restore/recover.

Hi there.
Scan your computer for viruses, uninstall the programs which are associated with zip files.
Download CCleaner, install and clean the temp files, temp internet files and registry (when it asks you if you want to back up to the registry select yes)
CCleaner here >>>>>>>

Try using a better extracting tool like Winrar or 7zip. They have better options on handling zip files. Just download and install the program suited for your operating system.

Manual formsi-7104ver:1.0 motherboard

The MSI MS-7104 version 1.0, motherboard, is also known as the MSI PM8M-V motherboard,

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/PM8M-V.html

Scroll down the page, and hover your mouse cursor on the heading - Download.
(Overview, Specification, Download, Support, Where to Buy)

In the drop down list left-click on - Manual

Under the heading Download to the right, left-click on the blue -
M7104v1.0.zip

Now left-click on the country nearest yours.

A small window will come up on the right,
Opening M7104v1.0.zip

If the circle to the left of Save File has a green dot in it, leave it.
If not left-click in the circle to the left of Save File. (Puts a green dot in the circle)

Go to the bottom right of the window, and left-click on OK.

A small window will come up on the left.
IN the wording at the top of this window tells you where the file will download to.

It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads in it. (Based on WinXP. Vista and Win7 is different) You may wish to write it down.

1) Desktop:
The file will be on your desktop screen.

2) My Documents:
Left-click on Start, then on My Documents.

3) Downloads:
Left-click on Start, then on My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

Primer:
A ZIP file is used to send large amounts of information more easily.
A ZIP is 'unzipped' using an unzip program.

You should have WinZip on your computer. An unzip program. If not I suggest using a free alternative. One such alternative is 7-Zip,

http://7-zip.org/

{ 32-bit x86 is for the regular version of Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Pro Edition.
The 32-bit versions }

When you see the zip file, DOUBLE-click right on it.
The Unzip Wizard should come up. Left-click on unzip in the right column.

Now go to the far Left side, and left-click on Extract All Files.
Left-click on Next, Next, and Finish, at the bottom of the three windows.

You will be looking at a window that has the file name next to a red PDF icon.
Double-click on it.

You are now looking at a PDF file form of the motherboard manual.

How do I unzip downloaded file on Vista and copy it to floppy disk, via usb to floppy converter? Thank you. Cathy.

Windows Vista has a built-in function for unzipping files in Explorer. Just right-click the filename and select Unzip from the menu. But I never use the built-in Windows function, because it's incredibly slow and has limited functionality.

My favorite is 7-Zip, which you can download from http://www.7-zip.org/. It will extract files of .zip, .rar, and many other archival formats, and it can split large files into small sections to be stored on several floppies.

7-zip adds a line in the context (right-click) menu of Explorer for 7-zip>, so you can unzip files right from Explorer. Splitting files requires starting 7-zip and finding the file in it's own explorer-like interface. Right-click the filename, and select Split... A little dialog box appears asking what size chunks you want to split the file into. In my test just now it defaulted to 1.44M floppy disk-sized sections. You also choose the folder you want the new files to go to. The actual splitting operation, even on this old Win 2000 computer splitting a 3.6M file, was virtually instantaneous.

The program is free for personal or business use.

I have downloaded Drivers for Olympus VN-4100PC but cant install them as they are a zipped file

On any computer running Windows XP or Vista or 7,
right-mouse click on the ZIP file, and choose "Extract All" to start the "unzipping-wizard".

Once unzipped, look for a "setup.exe" file in the newly-created folder. Double-click to run that program.
