Question about Minolta magicolor 2300W Laser Printer

1 Answer

Hello! I have a Magicolor 2300W that has been standing unused for some time and it won't print correctly. The printer feeds paper from the tray, it goes through the printer, comes out at the top - but just before the sheet of paper is released (ejected) into the collection bay at the top, it stops. The paper seems almost fully printed, but why does it stop there? And the printed image/text looks a bit shifted, the first 2 inches of the paper are plain and at the bottom those 2 inches are missing. When the paper stops ejecting, the printer reports "paper jam transfer rollers". However, it is very easy to pull the last bit out of the printer, so it isn't really stuck. After closing the door/right side of the printer to reset the jam I'm getting either a "paper size mismatch" or "put media:tray 1 A4" error. Maybe not important, but maybe good to know. Aditionally, I'm having problems printing color on it. In color modes (not monochrome, that seems to work somewhat) only some faint shades of cyan appear, a hint of magenta and no yellow.

1. Check the paper size your printing on and whether the Same is used by printer or not 2. Try shaking the cartridges as they may have got stuck at their places for long time 3. Try legal or a4 or letter size for paper

SOURCE: magicolor 2400w won't feed paper

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, your described problem indicates a possible mechanical issue. In most printers, there would be a rubber wheel (or half a wheel in some) that grabs the end of the paper to provide the initial push through the paper path/rollers. If the unit has been in use for some time, it may be then wear & tear, the rubber has considerably worn out that it no longer provides sufficient grip. Alternately, it may be that this grab/rubber wheel just needs a bit of cleaning.

Pls post back results of cleaning. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: qms 2200 paper mismatch error

Initial Thoughts
The problem seems to be a fault in a paper feed sensor. This would explain the size mismatch, since these sensors are how the printer detects the paper size. And, it would explain why printing starts two-thirds down the page, since these sensors are also used in timing where on the page to start printing.

However, a document passes through three software applications before it actually prints. And, any one of them could be causing the paper size mismatch.

Insight
Although paper sensors are usually low-tech and easy to remedy, they are often difficult to find and can sometimes be difficult to get to. Most such sensors are simple switches (toggles) and others are optical sensors that work like the electric eye of a garage door opening system. And, the solution may be as simple as a tiny piece of paper stuck on one of them. However, sensors such as these are quite numerous on this printer and can be hidden anywhere.

The three software applications I referred to are:

1. The document rendering application, such as Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word, etc.

2. The print writer. This is part of the device driver software package. It breaks up a print request and converts it to a standard format that the printer will always recognize and manages transmission of each page to the system spooler or directly to the printer.

3. The printer firmware. I'm not sure of everything this does related to the print stream. But, part of it must manage resources, such as ensuring the right size paper is being fed.

The is blocked by dust on the side of the paper on the image unit that would have color associated with the print. Remove all the image units and clean all the laser glass. Replace those image units also if streaking as for the paper ensure correct paper side and media type.

Try two things:

Fan the paper before placing in the tray.

Raise the humidity in the room to at least 40% to avoid electrostatic sticking of the paper. Store paper in 40% humidity area.

Magicolor 2300DL Question?

One thing you should try first, is open the paper width guides( paper loading tray), as if they are set too tight that will cause the paper not to lift up to the pickup roller.

Paper jam, cleaner kit

If the paper is not situated perfectly in the tray, and it cannot grab the top sheet easily, mine will give the paper jam message. I just adjust the paper in the tray, then open one of the doors, front or back, and close it again, and it usually fixes the "Jam".
