Question about Fujitsu LifeBook S6231 Notebook

Laptop won't power up

Was using it just fine then went to exit a program using the ESC key and the screen went blank and the power died on the laptop. After that I could not power it up again using the power button. I removed the main battery, the aux. battery, made sure they were fully charged, checked for full power from the line brick and it is good at the plug to the back of the laptop. I've held down the power button for 1 min. and still no life.

No, the laptop is completely dead. If it had any life I would be troubleshooting it from there. If there is a power up circuit controlled by the soft power on button then it may have gotten a static zap and took out the power up chip, what do you think? I am a 25 year electronics tech and I've troubleshot many desktop PC's over the years but never worked on laptops yet. Logically this seems to be a power up chip or a MB issue. Maybe an internal power regulator or fuse inside?

I tried removing and reseating the ram chips, also removed and reconnected the hard drive and main battery. When I plug in the AC adapter the small LCD panel shows it is charging, but this is the only sign of life the computer shows. The power button does not work or light up the blue ring around it like it normally should. I fear it is a bad motherboard or power logic board, probably got zapped by static.

Try reseating the RAM, if it doesn't work then test the RAM in another computer.

Does the laptop fan or hard drive responds when you press the power button or is the laptop totally dead?

I need to access the Bios system on my Lenovo laptop windows 7 how do I do that?

To enter your computer Bios, Turn on the computer by pressing the Power Button on the computer. ( Not from while it's been sleeping or hibernating.) Then press the Delete key repeatedly every second while it's powering on. It should not enter the Windows7 blue screen. Instead, it should enter the Bios screen where your mouse will not work because the screen dosn't have a curser. You'll have to use the arrow keys to navigate and the Enter and Esc keys to chose and return. Also pay attention to the screen's advice on how to use the function keys on the top of your keyboard. For use for example to: SAVE AND EXIT or EXIT WITHOUT SAVING.

Shut your computer down and remove the power cord.

Replace the power cord and press the "Power" button to restart it.

Watch the screen carefully for a message about computer setup.

Most computers use one of the function keys, which are aligned across the top of the keyboard, to access the computer's setup utility, but each manufacturer uses a different key.

For instance, HP computers generally use the F1 or F10 keys, while many Dell computers use the F12 key.

Press the appropriate function key to enter the computer's setup program, then scroll through the list of options until you see "Boot Order."

The exact location of the boot order option varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but it is often located under the Advanced menu.

Highlight the "USB Devices" option and press the up arrow key until that device is first on the boot order list.

This will force the computer to look at the external DVD drive first when it boots up.

Use the "Esc" key to exit the setup menu. Choose the "Save settings and exit" option and allow the computer to reboot.

It will now boot from the external DVD drive.

Hope this helps

Were you working with laptop in battery mode, not plugged in a/c power? You could have drained your internal DC battery & at the same time damaged your B.I.O.S. [button type] battery inside the laptop. that the computer goes into POST means that it is trying to FIND itself, not finding the graphics card, it does not know what type of 'picture' ( usually black screen with ""DOS"" words ) to show you.
1st- turn laptop on, you should see name, what type of cpu (the "inner " workings of computer) and sometimes the amount of memory (clicking like a digital timer) If not, don't worry. Press f1,or DELETE, ESCAPE (ESC), or read your book to find the KEY to puts you into SETUP. There should be a menu and somewhere there are DEFAULT. USE THOSE! Reboot to see results.

Installation of Windows 2003 server in Toshiba Laptop

Change your boot order in the BIOS.

1. Turn on computer by Holding down power button while pressing the ESC key.
The machine will beep, then display:
Check System, then press [F1] key.
2. Release ESC key
3. Press F1 key

In the bios, go to the Boot tab, and make sure CD - DVD - or Optical Drive are the top of the list (see the legend at the bottom of your screen for what keys do what). Save and exit, then install your OS (save and exit is most often F10).
