my computer starts up ok but when a programme starts to run the blue screen of death appears. it makes reference to memory etc when i know i should have plenty spare. it also mentions shadowing. it also does not start in safe mode or any other mode other than normal start up

hello there

Thais a classic hard drive fault. You can try reinstalling windows again which may fix the problem temporarily. I would suggest changing the hard rive, you'll find then very cheap on places like ebay etc.
