You do not have to do that, under uniform Aust consumer law. Your warranty applies regardless of that, but make sure you retain the sales receipt.
The major reason for filling in that card they give you is to allow them to contact you if there is a recall.
Note that if the product develops a major fault (does not work properly), the seller cannot legally force you to go away, and deal with the manufacturer instead, and it is totally your option then whether to have repair, replacement, or refund. They will tell you otherwise, but it is so.
