2 slices of bread wrapped in paper towel microwave set on defrost set 35 seconds caught fire

Microwaves work by friction. They blast water molecules in the food so they move fast, just like rubbing your hands together makes them hot. Some types of microwave in defrost mode actually apply FULL POWER for a short period of time so to make the product warm to the touch. This heat then penetrates down to the core of the food, ensuring full defrost. In your case the heat was sufficient enough to heat the dry paper towel to set it on fire.
Bread is better defrosted on the low power setting as sliced bread is very thin. Items should only be defrosted on the defrost setting that are thick and need to be completely defrosted on the inside. Remember microwaves only penetrate the surface of food, making that hot. Thermal conduction does the rest.
You should never use paper towels in a microwave unless the instructions for doing the food say so. You wouldn't put a paper towel in a gas or electric oven, so don't put them in a microwave.

Some products in certain areas of the freezer are defrosting.

any I have seen have a temp dial in them , put a thermometer in it and check the temp often . depending on age it could be needing recharged with freon . but also if it is terribly full that will effect the efficiency of the unit .

Why does the freezer seem to be at a higher temperature than indicated?

Check the back inside wall of the freezer for s coating of ice/frost or snow like substance. If yes-- that is an indication that your auto defrost system is not working. As the frost builds up more, the temp inside will get warmer. Most common problem in the defrost system is a burned out heater behind that back wall, but could be several problems causing it.

I have a Beko frost free fridge freezer kept in a garage that has all of a sudden just stopped working. I noticed that the bread I'd put in the freezer hadn't frozen and then noticed that the fan had...

If the fan has failed or intermittent, the freezer wont freeze the food properly but usually you get a mountain of ice build up at the back of the freezer. This ice jams and stops the fan from turning. Alternatively, there could be a defrost problem. Unless it is a fully electronic defrost machine, there is usually a little timer on the back of the fridge to force a defrost after a certain time. The fridge will turn off, the defrost heater operates to melt the ice and then usually with 20 to 45 minutes, the defrost timer will "click" back on and start the fridge running again. If the timer is sticking, the fridge may stay on its defrost cycle and never start again, thus, it doesn't get cold. If you find the defrost timer, have a close look for a little shaft or slotted screw type stud sticking out of the middle of it. A slight turn of this and you should hear it clicking around. When you hear a loud click, that is either the start or end of the defrost cycle. If you have a full electronic defrost system, it may be a failed board, heater, thermostat or defrost safety fuse.

Ice cream and breads only freeze if its set on highest level

You have ice buildup on evaporator coils caused by self defroster not working. Check defrost timer and defrost heating element for proper operation.

Freezer working but not colder enough to freeze.

It will usually take 24 hours for the fridge/freezer to adjust fully to the temperature settings.

It is also possible that the defrost timer cycle was going into or just coming out of the defrost cycle, thus it could have delayed the start of the cooling cycle, so give it a little time to determine if the freezer is working.

If, not freezing after 24 hours, let us know and we'll go from there.

It takes longer for an empty freezer to get and hold temperatures, so it is always a good idea to have the freezer loaded with bread (thirft store bargains are cheap) or jugs of 3/4 full water (water takes longer to freeze than bread thou).

Hope you find this very helpful and best regards!

The freezer does not get as cold as it should especially in the top compartment where the fan is. It will not freeze icecream and bread they do not freeze at all. However everything else seems to be fine...

Could be that the automatic defrost feature is not operating properly. You can go here if you want to find out how you might be able to fix it yourself, but you'll need to be comfortable with diagnostic testing and taking your frig apart. Otherwise, it's very repairable...contact a reputable repair company to come check it out.
