You probably have an unwanted pop-up cooky, which Bit Defender does not block. I suggest you download Free Spybot Search and Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/

Random beeping metal detector

Get a good quality metal detectors would make only 50% of your task. Only by adding accessories to
the Executive setting could be improved. A good pair of headphones, SIP, carrying pouch and a
few of the components should be obtained for any treasure hunter. You'll find audio equipment,
as well as that might help you capture even faint sounds.

Why do the commercials broadcast louder than the actual TV station. I always have to have the remote in my hand to control the volumn. Not right!

This is done intentionally by that broadcaster who charges more for for the ad to the advertiser to boost the audio level. This is Dirty Pool. There are cockroaches of many kinds out there. John

My Alesis Videotrack stops recording on it's own. There is no consistency of time when it stops.

Contact Alesis Tech Support. They sent me a new FW (version 1.44) newer than was on th ewebsite. It fixed random stops and added an audio only recording option as well.

Sound cuts out especially when commercials come on. I turn off receiver then turn back on and the sound is back.

Sounds to me like you may need to turn off the 'Smart Sound' feature as this sometimes malfunctions causing the sound to turn down to almost nothing, and sometimes nothing at all. 'Smart Sound' is a feature that keeps a units volume from going way up when commercials come on... A lot of advertisers have it set to where their ads are broadcast a bit, sometimes quite a bit louder, that the normal broadcast, they do this to ensure you hear their ads... Hope that's all it is, Best of luck!

Auto volume has little or no effect on loud commercials

This may not be a problem. I believe there is an audio effect used by video production houses to 'boost' the presence of an ads audio and this effect is not picked up by the electronic device's (in this case TV) volume stabilizing software. It is intentional by the makers of the ads.
A work-around could be to try different configurations on your TV's audio settings, such as just mono, or just 2channel stereo, or surround sound - on or off, increasing/decreasing bass and treble levels in different combinations.
The down-side to this is to get a comfortable, uniform level of volume across the board, you maybe sacrificing some sound quality - but, as with our eyes, our ears adjust well quickly (hence don't listen to too loud sounds) and what you may not like now, will sound ok tomorrow.
I can't tell if there is a fault or not, but this may help if you "trial" some options.

Typewriter runs its own commercial, how can it be stopped?

The self demo mode is only supposed to activate when you hold down the CODE key and hit the ALT key. If it turns itself on at random I would suspect a problem with the main board. You might try turning off the machine, and unplugging it for at least 1 minute. It could also be a forien object or dust on the board or a bad or loose connection. in which case you would want to take it so a repair shop.
