Make sure you have free space on the drive. Install Solaris on the free space and install the boot loader on the Solaris partition (not the MBR). Boot to a rescue disk like Knoppix or Ubuntu and run the following commands on the laptop drive:
mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt
dd bs=512 count=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/mnt/solaris.bin
Then boot windows and edit c:\boot.ini to add the c:\solaris.bin file to the boot possibilities, and set the timeout and default to convenient values. Reboot.

Hi there.
The only way to dual boot XP and Solaris is to reinstall XP, but seeing as you don't want to uninstall XP the only other option would be to install a virtual machine on XP.
VMware Player is a great app to install Solaris as a virtual operating system, this gives you opertunity to use both operating systems at once!!!

Get VMware player here >>>>>>

Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Good day. Need a driver for SMC Sun PCI Quad Fast

Please be informed that any Driver Software depends upon its Hardware make and Operating System support. You need to know all these information to get started working with that particular hardware. You can find the driver software inside the disc provided to you at the time of purchase.
As per your query i have checked a lot of technical sites and even Sun microsystems, but I found that this network device can not be installed in a windows platform as this only supports Solaris Operating System. Please find the detail here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19113-01/quad.fast.sbus/804-6116-10/804-6116-10.pdf
The Sun Quad FastEthernet SBus adapter is supported on systems running the Solaris operating environment, versions 2.4, 2.5, 2.5.1, 2.5.1 Hardware releases, and 2.6. The Sun Quad FastEthernet PCI adapter is only supported on systems running the Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware releases and Solaris 2.6.

Tip

I need Postscript drivers for Lexmark printer T630.

Hi.

This printer supports Postscript, PPDS, and PDF emulation only on systems up to Windows 2000, on Mac OS X up to 10.6, and on Solaris.
Windows 7and Vista are not fully compatible with this printer, and the printer will not have full functionalities on this systems.

If you have Win XP, Win dows Server 2003, Win 98, Win 2000 or Mac OS, then all you have got to do is installing full factory driver software.

If you have Windows 7 or Vista, then you should upgrade the printer to get full features. Lexmark has opted for not updating this printer software. Full software release for Windows Vista and Windows 7 does not exist.

The drivers and software for this printer can be downloaded from Lexmark website, using the links below:

Lexmark_AAG_WinXP_PS_Driver- Post script driver.

System PCL Driver for Microsoft Windows XP and Server 2003

System PCL Driver for Microsoft Windows 2000.

PCL6 driver for Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and Me.

Printing solution for Mac OS X v.10.6.

Print driver for Sun Solaris 10 x86 systems.

Network print support for Linux.

Here the full driver installation procedure : How to install a Lexmark printer without the driver and software disk.

The printer may still work on Vista and Windows 7 using the built in drivers, but it will have limited functionality. See: Windows 7 Information.

Regards.

Hi, I want to replace windows with Solaris. Im unable to change the boot sequence. Please give me the detailed explanation.

If you enter the BIOS menu just before the system boots up, you can choose whether to boot from DVD ROM, LAN, USB etc. Just select what you require and save it.

Hello sir, to install window xp and 7 using a kinston pen drive you will to have a software called win to flash. Its a software that allows you to install window 7 and xp from a pen drive and for the sun solaris you also need a software called unetbootin that allows you to install solaris using a pen drive. You can google these softwares to download them for free. I hope this solution is helpful. Have a wonderful day.
