The most probable problem is no fuel delivery to the engine.

1. Check/replace the fuel in-tank filter, you should be able to easily blow through it once removed. The primer bulb will sink down and not return quickly if the filter is bad. Fuel will not return to the tank via the return line if the fuel filter doesn't allow fuel to be pulled in.

2. If fuel is returning to the fuel tank when the primer is pushed then your problem is inside the carb.

3. To verify this put a small quantity of gas in the lid of a water bottle (half full). And pour it into the carb throat. Replace the air filter to prevent a backfire from shooting flames out. Try to start the weedwacker. If it runs and then dies the problem is inside the carb.

4. If you are really good at working on things with small parts you can clean out the carb and replace all of the gaskets to solve the problem. If this isn't for you then you should take it to a lawn shop and have them clean the carb and replace the gaskets.

NOTE: Replacing the gaskets is very important because the gaskets get stiff and the fuel pump action of one of the gaskets is reduced or stopped.

Hope this helps, Karl

Craftsman 25cc weedeater quit running whie using it. Filled it with gas, would not start. Poured gas in the carburater, used starting fuid, spark plug firing, still would not fire. Any ideas?

If it has compression and spark it has to be gas. Try a new plug. If it still does not start consider replacing the carb. About $14 fro m Ebay. Make sure to replace the fuel lines going into tank. They come with a carb kit usually.

Craftsman hand held gas leaf blower will not start. I have put in fresh gas, changed spark plugs, cleaned the gas filter, tested for spart and it does spark, changed the air filter but all this and still...

If it has a spark then try spraying some starter fluid on the air filter. If it attempts to run then the carburator is stopped up. If it doesn't then you most likely have low compression. Remove the spark plug and screw in a compression tester and pull the starter a few times. It has to have no less than 70 psi to fire and run. 90+ would be even better. If it is 50 and below try pouring a little oil in the spark plug hole and repeat the test. If it improves a little then you have a scored cylinder or piston or stuck or broken piston rings. Let me know what you learn and I'd be glad to walk you through some more.

Only runs on choke

fit a diaphragm kit in the carby
the pump diaphragm is the first to fail and then the float diaphragm distorts and will not let in enough fuel to keep it running

Craftsman weedeater wont start

The problem that I had with my craftsman was that I found that there was a tube in the fuel tank that goes to the carb, & at the other end - inside the tank, there was a small screen with maybe a weight on it (to keep it in the gas no matter what position the weedeater is in). Mine was plugged up and i went to the saw shop and got a generic hose & end with the screen deal & changed them out. Solved my problem. Rick
