We have a very basic GE top loading washer that sounds like a jet plane when in the spin cycle. Today it was making a rubbing noise while agitating and my husband wanted to take a look inside to see if he could spot a problem. Is there a trick to lifting the top of this washer. He thinks it should just lift up but can't seem to do it on this machine?????
It does just lift up but it is held in place with clips that are forced into openings so you have to use some force to separate the two.
slide a putty knife in the crack and work it around. as you do so it will start to open for you.
If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.
Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.
to get into the GE washer. you nee to unscrews the back and the control panel. left the whole machine sides of the washer and push toward the front. (The sides of the washer is clip into the button of the rail, there isnothing in the front).

Would like to Find out HOW to Adjust the Leveling Legs on this Machine. They have a Machine Thread, they are Plastic, and Have a Dowel Pin through the Top which makes it so You can NOT Turn it. So, How do I Adjust these withOUT having to Open up the Machine? Apparently the Legs are Inter-connected from side-to-side//the Back Ones are a "Pair", and the Front Ones are a "Pair"...at this Point my Machine is about 1 1/8" too Low on the Back to Leve...IF I can Find out HOW to Adjust, then I can Lower the Front Legs, and Raise the Back ones...This Out of Level has Already caused the Centering Straps to Break (which I just replaced)...
