Question about Philips 43P8341 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Turning off and on

The TV keeps shutting off. The TV can stay on for as little as two minutes to as long as 2 hours. The TV was purchased in 2002 . The light  on the front blinks on and off. I am a technician and can fix it if you have any suggestions.

Thanks SeaWillie

Tv not turning on and red standby light flashing

If the TV went in standby and does not wake up, staying with led flashing, then the TV has on protect mode after detecting a fault.
When this happens higher voltages are shut down to prevent further damage.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

When turning on the TV, I hear a banging/grinding sound.

If you hear a grinding, whirling, spining or buzzing sound, that sounds to me like the COLOR WHEEL,the reason for that is because your color wheel spins at 5,000 rpms(revolution per minute) and something that modifies the balance of the disc can cause different things,Unfortionatelly the only way to check that the color wheel is working properlyis you need to check it out physically

I did some research and I found the color wheel at DM;

Please keep us posted.

Tv shuts itself down

This is due to bad caps read here what a cap is see you tv is getting hot as normal but the caps cannot stand it any more thus shutting the tv down. The bad caps would be more or less in the power supply unit of this TV. So you can buy a new psu or get it repaired by a expert.

VS-60111 turns off on its own after few hours

Did you repair the two leads? Ao check near the Convergence ICs for an open resistor or two, although that shouldn't effect your audio. Yu most likely have a low voltage regulator or bad capacitor. You will probably need the service manual to actually track it down. I will post a link where you can ge one for 12.99 and the include free unlimited support. They will also email it instantly to you if you return to the site and send them an email requesting they email it to you. You sound like you could fx it with the service manual and some guidance. Here is the link.

Shutting off and on...

the problem may be due to dry soldering in the power supply stage if it was with the lamp there would be red or green light showing the presence of the power to the tv after making it own some of the components get hot and it will make the the soldering point conectionless and after some time the heat sink get cooled and the soldering point gets connected and u will see the picture again it is a simple problem if u have a soldering iron u make it hot and re solder all the components in the first part of the circuit board and the problem if rectified
