Hi there.
As far as i know there is no CMOS jumper in the dell E1505, but what you can do is remove the motherboard battery for an hour to hopefully reset the bios.
Take the main battery out of the laptop as well as the AC power supply so the laptop is receiving no power at all. Push the lid back as far as it will go and remove the hinge cover like this >>>>
cmos jumper or switch dell e1505 - ec4b612.jpg
Now you have to lift the keyboard, there are 2 screws at the top of the keyboard so unscrew them and gently lift the keyboard up like this >>>>>>

You will see in the illustration the motherboard battery, just take it out for an hour and then put it back in, please be careful with the keyboard as there is a delicate ribbon cable, if you have to, remove the keyboard from the motherboard.
To release the keyboard cable from the keyboard connector on the motherboard, rotate the plastic bar on the keyboard connector toward the front of the computer.

Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

If it just clears the clock, remove the memory too and leave the battery out for longer periodically hitting the on/off button.

In the meantime i will see if there is a pin short for this model

    Hi again.
There is no pin short for Inspiron models, each Dell Inspiron
has a master password which will clear the BIOS password. You can get
this number by calling Dell Technical Support at (800)624-9896.

Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of your Inspiron.

If you were not the original owner of the Inspiron, Dell will
transfer registration of the used Inspiron from the original owner with
only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.

To transfer the registration of a used Dell Inspiron, fill out the Transfer of Ownership form on Dell's web site.
If my above method doesn't work then this is the only choice and it could cost if its out off warranty.

Very good luck with it and thanks for using FixYa!!

    Hi again.
If you give Dell service center or customer services a call, explain to them what you have just told me, i'm sure they can help you re-register the laptop to you and give you the master password after all it was originally registered to you and in all fairness they shouldn't charge you either.

    Good luck with them.

You need to go HERE! the add is, this guy Jason can give you the master bios AND hdd passwords for $20, or 15 if you buy multiple ones. It's either that, or call Dell and pray, and if you're OOW itll be $50. It literally took me longer to paypal him the info than it did for him to email me the bios password, and on the e1505 THERE ARE NO CLEARING JUMPERS! So I was looking @ replacing the entire mobo, or at LEAST the bios chip. From now on, I'm buying them ALL from him, itll save me hours even on the laptops you CAN jumper out! Good luck out there!

Stop trying to sell your stupid keygenned passwords. They don't work, PROTIP: the keygen this loser uses is included in Hirens bootdisc.

Dude, Can you send me a Bootable ISO CD of Dell Asset/Service Tag BIOS Reset Tool........Please

Hello, you can download this tool here:

The official method is to contact Dell Technical Support. Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of the Latitude. If the current user is not the original Latitude owner, Dell will transfer the used Latitude's registration from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.

  • For most Dell Dimension desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are:
    • Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board.
    • Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2.
    • Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds.
    • Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2.

Try the backdoor password: Dell

The another method is: by Using the Motherboard Jumper: In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off, and remove the battery and power cord
( if it is a laptop ) before you continue.

Here is a picture how it looks like:

The default setting is:pin 1 to 2, to clear cmos: 2 to 3.

Best of luck :-)

Dell d340. need to enter admin password in bios to reorder boot sequence to accept usb first - its locked and i cant remember password. tried removing cmos battery and replacing but no good. help!

Try the backdoor password Dell

With a PSWD Reset Jumper Step 1Open the access panel to the password reset jumper if your Dell laptop has one. Consult your manual for the access panel's location. Some access panels have a tab you slide, while others are held in place with a screw.
Step 2Pry the plastic cover off the reset jumper with your fingernail. The reset jumper is a small pin port labeled "PSWD" with three pins. Put the plastic back onto the jumper over pin 1 and 2 instead of 2 and 3. Wait 90 seconds.
Step 3Pry the plastic off the reset jumper again and place it back onto the number 2 and 3 pins. Turn the laptop on. Repeat step 2 if the password is still present. Leave the plastic clip on pins 1 and 2 for a longer duration than last time.

Without a PSWD Reset Jumper Step 1Locate the reserve battery, also known as the CMOS battery, if your Dell laptop is not equipped with a password reset jumper. The CMOS battery's location varies among Dell laptop models. Consult your manual for the battery's location on your specific Dell laptop model. Many Dell reserve batteries are located underneath the main laptop battery. Remove the main battery and look for a sticker under it with instructions on removing the secondary CMOS battery.
Step 2Remove your Dell's reserve battery per the instruction manual or sticker located under the main battery. Removing the reserve battery resets the laptop's BIOS password. Wait 90 seconds, then replace the reserve battery. Reconnect the main battery.
Step 3Press the "Power" button to turn the laptop on.

I have a dell inspiron e1505. i have taken out the mother board but caint find the jumper or cmos chip can you tell me where it is and what it looks like.

There may not be a jumper. Most laptops have the CMOS battery soldered to the motherboard and the only way to reset it is through the bios screen.
