Question about Bernina Artista 180
Probably needs a new needle, a bigger needle, a needle right way around and fully up in the clamp. Or the bobbin is in wrong way around. Way, way down on the index of suspicion is a machine that's out of time.

SOURCE: stitch is not straight
When was the last time your machine had a routine cleaning and adjustment? It sounds as though you've got "play" in the mechanism that needs to be tightened by a sewing machine mechanic.

SOURCE: BSR skips stitches
Hi, I am a Bernina tech and can tell you what the problem is. The problem is that the spring on your BSR is weak. Bernina has an upgrade to adding a heavier spring that solves this problem. The older lighter springs on the BSR is shiny. The newer heavier updated spring is dark. Ask your dealer/tech to change this spring to a new one or give you a newer updated BSR. Also be sure they updated the BSR to the latest firmware.

If you are selecting patterns but only getting a straight stitch after making sure you have set the width, there may be a chance that the pattern camstack has split and the selector finger is stuck in the split, more common than people think,
take the top off the machine and check

I had the same problem : the seller told be to change the needle. When the needle has been used too long, stitches are "skipped".

On a Bernina 1130 the power on-off knob and the feed dog raise and lower knob look similar and are next to each other on the end of the machine, making it easy to lower the dog assembly entirely, without realizing it. Make sure you didn't accidentally lower the entire feed dog assembly by turning the feed dog knob: you can tell as you turn it if the dogs are up or down. On the Bernina 1130 the knob, like the power should be in the horizontal position to be working both feed and power.
