Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Black ink smears everything.

I removed paper causing a jam following the manual instructions. Then copied some information from the platen glass, the colors were fine, but the black in smeared everything. I cleaned the paper feed rollers, because after I ran a blank sheet thru, the paper was maked with light smears of black ink.

Thank you Barbara

It is still smearing ink on other parts the the paper that is run through. I've cleaned the print head, rollers and anything else that was suggested. Can't get the machine to stop smearing the ink. Could it be a bad cartriage?

You may have to clean the print head. since the jam cause the smear, and there still have some ink left on the print head.
you wouldn't get aclean copy till all of the ink trace are gone.

possible, you can take the ink cartridge out, use a clean and dry paper towel dap? the ink head, clean the ink carrier while you have the ink cartridge out. and try again. if that doesn't work then it is time for a new cartridge.

When making a copy, be it A4R or A4 Lines cross horizotally from left to rigth

Good Day Lucamoses!

Maybe it is time for you to clean the scanner glass and or the ADF platen glass.

Remember a small dirt, usually a dried ink in the scanner glass or platen glass will leave a horizontal black lines in your copied paper.

I hope the problem you have Lucamoses is just as simple as cleaning the glass to solve it.
Good Luck!

I have a Canon MF 4690 printer. When I scan or copy, it draws a line the length of the sheet. It doesn't do that when I print.

That's usually caused when the platen glass, or ADF glass is dirty or damaged. Try cleaning the platen glass and it's cover, and most importantly the thin strip of glass in the ADF portion of the scanner.

A piece of debris or an ink smear will cause a black strip just like the one you describe.

BTW, if you need instructions on cleaning the ADF strip there's usually instructions in the user's manual.

Black line in paper

On what operation are you receiving the black line in your paper?

This problem usually appears when you try to scan or copy using your ADF (automatic document feeder).
To remove this black line in your paper, clean the ADF platen glass in your printer and do as well in the flatbed scanner glass. This ADF platen glass can be found right below where the documents in the ADF goes through. Its a glass about 1 inch in with and beside the flatbed scanner glass (the one where your documents is lay down for copying and scanning. Dried ink or paper residue sticked in the glass can cause this line in the paper. Clean it with a a clothe and spray some windex on it.

Good luck!

Why do I have a line down the middle of my scan using the feeder not when I scan on the glass?

Hi,

Check the feeder slot for any debris (paper, correction fluid etc.)
Also open the lid so check the platen glass. to the far left should be a narrow strip of glass seperate from the main plate. make sure there are no marks on this, usually correction fluid or ink from ballpens likes to get smeared on here when using the feeder causing a perma black object to be scanned for copying / scanning. hence the mark on the copy / scan.

Wipe carefully with a warm, damp cloth and some window cleaning detergent to remove any marks from there.

Had paper jam. Followed instructions to release

Forgive me for asking this, but roughly speaking about 80 to 95% of problems involving ink or toner are resolved by the following:
Are you using a factory new ink cartridge supplied by the manufacturer of the printer?
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using the manufacturer’s new ink cartridges, then please contact their technical support group. Factory new cartridges usually have warranties on them.

Paper jams when using the ADF. Canon IC D780

Hi there,

When using ADF
Note:
* Set a document on the Platen Glass if you want to scan it at optimum quality,
* The area (range) within 0.08"/2mm from the top edge if document cannot be printed since the machine cannot scan it.
*Do not load the following types of documents in the ADF. They will jam.
-Wrinkled or creased paper
- Curled paper
- Torn paper
- Paper with holes
- Carbon paper or carbon-backed paper
- Surface treated paper
- Onion skin or thin paper
- Photogragh or thick paper.
1) Remove any documents from the PLaten Glass.
2) Open the Document Tray.
3) Load the document in the ADF.
Load the document with the side you want to copy, or scan face up in the ADF.
4) Adjust the Doument Guides to match the document width.
Note :
Ensure that the edge of the document stack is in line with the Paper Size Mark imprinted on the Document Tray.

Hope this helps.
Please rate my response.
Thanks
Have a good day.

MP830, how to retrieve faxes in memory to my PC

-

- A margin appears
on printouts.
2 B Paper feed
Improper paper
feeding:
- Multi-feeding
- Skewed paper
feeding
- Paper jam
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Plain paper
- Highest print speed
(Custom setting to 5)
- In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment
- In the low temperature
and low humidity
environment
- With the maximum
amount of paper set (13
mm)
In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment, paper
becomes wavy; in the
low temperature and
low humidity
environment, paper
curls significantly.
When the maximum
amount of paper is set
in the ASF, and if the
paper-return tab fits in a
wave or curl of the
paper, the tab slips and
does not catch paper
properly, causing paper
feed problems.
- Reduce the amount of
paper set in the ASF to
half (approx. 5 mm
high).
- Multiple sheets of
paper feed at the
same time.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A paper jam
occurs.
3 C Print results
Skewed paper
feeding (at the
level of +/- 1%)
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Credit Card size
Since coaxial tolerance
between the pinch roller
and the LF roller, which
determines the paper
feed alignment, is
0.2mm, skewed paper
feeding can occur.
However, according to
the field data of current
models, the skewness
level caused by the
coaxial tolerance of
0.2mm is within the
criteria of +/- 1%, thus
the phenomenon is left
as is.
- Align the paper guide to
the paper edge tighter
than usual.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A margin appears
on printouts.
4 A Print results
Soiling on the
back side of paper
(lines or streaks
parallel to the
paper feed
direction)
- After continuous
borderless printing of
small sized paper (such
as 4 x 6), when a larger
sized paper (such as A4)
is printed.
- With Photo Paper Plus
Double Sided or
postcards, the
phenomenon is likely to
be noticeable and to be
complained of by users,
as printing is performed
on both sides of such
paper.
In borderless printing,
printing is performed to
the size slightly larger
than the paper size, and
ink off the paper is
absorbed by the platen's
ink absorber. Absorbed
ink may attach to the
platen rib(s) after
several dozen sheets are
printed, causing soiling
at the leading edge of
paper or on the back
side of paper.
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
2. If soiling on the paper
still remains after 3
times of Bottom plate
cleaning, wipe the
platen rib(s) and their
surroundings with a
cotton swab.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
Soiling on paper in
automatic duplex
printing (lines or
streaks
perpendicular to
the paper feed
direction)
- Automatic duplex
printing (Photo Paper
Plus Double Sided,
postcards, plain paper)
On the rib(s) inside the
sheet feed unit used for
duplex printing, ink
mist may accumulate,
smearing paper.
Temporary operational
solution:
Cancel automatic duplex
printing, and manually
print each side of paper.
Cleaning by user:
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
- Even after Bottom
plate cleaning
was performed,
and the platen
ribs were cleaned
with cotton swab,
paper gets
smeared.

Paper Jam at where the paper would exit.

You have to remove the fuser.

you need to remove the fuser in this order:

the drum unit
the left panel holding the glass
the glass

where the scanner is there is a black thin guide holding the ribbon cable...take that off.

the display panel
bottom left side panel
bottom read side panel
bottom top panel

flip over the black milar cover over the power supply.

disconect the 3 cables

move the platern about half way and you will see the holes on top of the platen aligned to the bottom so to get to the 3 screws holding the fuser unit.

undo the screws with a long star screw driver and slowly wigle the fuser out.

to put it back you do everything in the opposite order.

Good luck

HP OfficeJet J5780 Vertical Black Line Prints when copying or scaning only. Cleaned rollers and changed black ink cartrigde. Still problem.

Have you tried cleaning the document feeders Scan Glass? (small glass under doc feeder ~ 1" by 9") Most times there is dirt spot on this glass, causing a shadow on scans and copies.
Try copying from the large glass by lifting doc feeder / platen cover and manually placing original. If no line copying or scanning manually from large glass, then small scan glass is deffenitely the culprit. Hope this helps.

All faxes sent have a dark black line going down the lenth of the

There is something on your scan glass that is blocking the light. If you open your ADF ( where you put the paper in to scan) like you are removing a jam there will be a long piece of glass. If you look at that glass there is probably dirt, ink smear, or whiteout smear on it. Clean that glass and try to copy a page. This should fix your problem.
Hope this helps.
