SOURCE: how to force defrost on goodman cple39-1a

That is not the case for Goodman defrost boards. You have to first jump the R and DFT on the board to give 24v to the DFT, then take your factory jumper, on 30 from factory, and jump the test pins, as soon as you hear the board click, remove the jumper from the test pins. It is suppose to stay there a max of 10 mins or until you remove the 24v from the DFT terminal. 3 things should occur, 1-fan relay opens stopping fan, 24v is applied to W2 and O. I work at Goodman.

Need a diagram of Goodman heat pump showing defrost relay area

Turn the power off to the heat pump and get a magnifying glass. There is probably only one board inside the outdoor unit anyway, but look closely through the magnifying glass and you should see a set of tiny needle size pins....maybe two rows of 4 parallel pins. There should be a black plastic jumper across a set of pins corresponding to the defrost length. Near those pins and written on the board there will be something relative to defrost duration. This is why you need the magnifying glass especially if you have any trouble with close up vision.

There is probably not a setting that is adjustable for the intervals between one defrost cycle and the next as they are typically initiated not on elapsed time, but on temperature of the outdoor coil providing input to the board that defrost is necessary.

Heat pump freezes up and will not defrost

You either have a bad defrost board or bad temp sensor. Need to have a qualified technician check it. To manually defrost set your unit to cool for a few minutes.

I have a goodman heat pump and all winter it worked fine, now i set it for ac and stil blowing hot air

The reversing valve may be stuck or it has a burnt solenoid coil. Also, check the defrost relay accross the contacts with an ohmmeter and see if it's bad. Goodman heat pumps also trip on high pressure. There's a resettable switch on some units with a red button. However, I think the problem is in the defrost circuit or reversing valve. If your electric heat is on, change the board.

Call the person who installed it, there could be another control on this that will energize the defrost, or call Goodman tech support they should give you the sequence of operation
