Question about Garden

Jonsered 4036 chain saw shows fire at spark plug won't fire.

It won't even fire after squirting brake cleaning fluid in carb and/or thru spark plug hole???? Am a novice so don't assume I know where all the parts are located!!!

Also, I have the chain bar off. Will it run with it off??

Also, the spark plug fires whether or not the chain brake is applied or not????

Thanks,

gerald from nc

Brake cleaner might not be the best choice for test firing... Pick up a can of Starting Fluid and spray a VERY SMALL amount into the air filter...
If it still doesn't turn over the engine might be worn out/damaged internally... At this point I'd compression test the engine and if the compression is lower then 80-90PSI It would be time to get a new saw.. If you can't get you hands on a compression tester you might want to take it to a Lawn and Garden shop and have them look at it..

If it does turn over with the Starting Fluid you looking at a fuel problem and I'd start with changing the gas with a fresh can and checking the (fuel filter) <-- found in fuel tank...

It will run with the bar off..

The brake only stops the chain and has nothing to do with the spark...

Hope this helps..

The saw only runs for a short time when I squirt gas into the spark plug hole. The book says that indicates a plugged fuel line. How do I unclog a fuel line in a Poulan PP4620AV chain saw ?

If you left gas in it for a year or so. You gotta take the Carb off and clean it. Guarenteed that the ethanol gas ruined the carb

The chainsaw will not start

Try a squirt of starting fluid into the carb. If it now fires dump out the old gas and put in fresh. If it did not fire replace the spark plug. If it still will not fire the points and condensor may need to be replaced. You will need to get a puller to get to them. They are under the flywheel. Some times saw dust gets between the points and just cleaning off the points will do. I do not know what the point gap should be if the points are replaced.

If you have a good spark, and there is fuel at the plug, the only things to stop it fireing up are a sheared flywheel key knocking the timeing out, or the engine has low compression due to wear or damaged piston and ring.

Saw will not fire. has spark at plug and compression is 130 will not fire even with starter fluid

If there is fuel to the plug, and a good spark it should fire, all i can think of is the ignition timing is out due to a sheared flywheel key.

New saw - will not start. Have put in premium gas/oil mix. Getting spark from plug when cord pulled. Hasn't even fired once.

It's possible the brake is on. Try pushing the brake forward then pulling it back until you hear it click. Then try cranking it again.

Husqvarna 51 died and wont restart

hi
if you have a good compression,a strong enough blue spark and carburetion for the fuel air mixture try priming the engine(put small amount of gas in the spark plug hole)then start the engine. If the engine runs only the gas you put inside the cilinder there is a carburetion problem to find and fix.
let me know regards savumihai71

Cannoy start saw. purchased reconditioned saw this

Make sure you have spark to the plug, make sure the plug is clean and dry, squirt some starting fluid into the plug hole and put the plug back in and try it. If it fires and then quits you probably have a fuel problem

Poulan 18' model 2000 chain saw, quit running , will not start.

If you have a compression gauge, check the compression. Anything under 90psi is too low.

Check your flywheel key. If it is broken the flywheel will move and not fire at the correct time.

Note: if it does not sputter with carb cleaner then it's not your carb.

Next:
Remove your exhaust manifold. Look into the cylinder with a flash light. You are looking for scratches. Anything larger then a light fingernail is definite proof you need a new cylinder/piston assy.

If it passes that test do the following:

Pour mixed fuel straight into your cylinder until 1/4 full. Slowly pull your saw over while looking into the cylinder. If you see bubbles after the ring/rings go by then you need a new cylinder/piston assy. On rare occasions if no scratches are present on the cylinder wall or piston, you may be able to change just the rings.
