Question about Toshiba 57H82 57" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

3 inch shadow at the top of the screen

I have a Toshiba 56hm66, it is just over a year old. it has what looks like a 3 inch shadow at the top of the screen when in full view. When watching wide screen movies it is fine, but then again the top three inches are not being used. Looks like the light needs to be moved or something? Any Ideas?

Re: 3 inch shadow at the top of the screen

The beam from the light engine is out of alignment.

the mechanical adj. is on the mount that supports it.

good luck

I seem to remember this issue in their sets, might want to spend some time with the model number and search "problems" as I have seen this in one of these before---several thousand sets ago.

Color shadowing on screen

I had similar symptoms about a year ago. Also came on sudden. The red convergence chip had burned out (poor heat sinking on this model Hitachi). Replacing the color convergence chips fixed it. ($50 for parts.) First, however, have you tried the "magic focus" function? That's explained in the manual, which is available online IIRC, but I'd have to look for the link if you need it.

Thin shade on top of screen on the toshiba

it's a faulty light engine. Toshiba usually does replaces those for free because they sold with a faulty part. Had mine replaced for free last year. Check your serial number on this page:

...and if it checks out, give them a call!

Toshiba 56hm66 New lamp worked last night, wont boot up again

You now have a defective lamp ballast board. It sometimes is the root cause of lamp failures in these sets. The problem here is that Toshiba does not sell the ballast board independently from the larger, more expensive light engine assy. Call Best Buy back and get a servicer out there. He may have to take the ballast board out of your TV and send it out for rebuilding.

Gray faded look on top to picture

It can be the plastic anti polarizing screen that covers the display.

Often it causes grey or red shadows on top of the picture.
