Go to your google search bar and type in SIW, download the program and run it, when you get it up and going to can scroll to the hardware catagory to memory, it should tell you what your maximum memory is you can install.
Some premanufactured computers like the Dell 8400 I'm using right now will only recongize 3GB, but it will actually take and use 4GB.
SIW should help you out a bunch.
