Question about Sony BM-147 Desktop Cassette Transcriber / Recorder

2 Answers

Sony bm-147 When playing back the recording, it starts out with the volume level fine, then it fades out and gets very low--distant, then it gets louder again. When I stop, and restart playback, it gets louder, then fades out again. If I playback long enough, the volume corrects itself after about two minutes. If I restart playback, the same cycles begins--starting out fine, then fades to very low, then up again, until it finally corrects itself again after two minutes or so. I've ruled out that it is the tape (it's a brand new tape, plus, it does not do this on my other Sony BM-147 at the office). I'm certain it's the machine, and not the tape.

The unit will need service. The reel that is on the right is pulling the tape to hard. There is a clutch system that needs service.

Hello on a BM-147 there is only one adjustment responsible for auto back space when you used foot pedal and that adjustment is next to the Display is call Reverse Time that controls the reverse function when you take foot control off from play but if the problem is when you take the foot off on REW and unit keeps going you have a bad foot pedal you can get a replacement at http://www.tvps.com/Products/ECS-Sony-IN-75-Heavy-Duty-Foot-Pedal---Pre-Owned__ECS-PIN-75.aspx

If there is no sound on a channel, and you know the recording is there, then you either have a bad head or a broken wire at the tape head.
