I have a 800 watt sony amp pushing 2 memphis pr's should the amp get hot

Yes the amplifier will become very warm or "hot". It is a good idea to place it in an area that will recieve plenty of ventilation and air flow. Some companies sell cooling fans for larger amps.

Unit does not power up. Opened unit and found fuse closest to power switch blown inside unit. Will replacing this fuse get my unit working again? If so, what would cause this fuse to blow? please help.

It is possible that the fuse was blown due to a surge and replacing it will resolve the problem, but I wouldn't expect it. Usually when the main fuse blows, the primary stage of the power supply has a problem and the replacement fuse will blow as well. This is not a cheap amp and I would suggest that it be checked by a service tech. A few quick measurements internally can determine the likely fault and should not cost too much as an estimate fee.

Please keep us posted.

Amp getting hot sound distorted fuses blown wires not touching

make sure that you have installed a wire fuse inbetween your battery and your amplifier that is the most common reason for blown fuses. without that extra fuse your amp is getting a non limited amount of power from the battery.

When I hook power to my amp the protect light comes on.

when connecting or disconnecting 12v power dont let the screwdriver touch the screw in terminal and side of amp at same time it causes a short in amp send it in to the factory or it could be the internal battery is burnt out from crankin it to loud

Hey thanks alot for the help, the way its hooked up now the amp eventually gets way to hot and the shut-off saftey heat switch just comes on. wondering if you had any suggestions for a good amp along with...

I would definately say, in the world of amplifiers you usually get what you pay for. I would recommend getting a Memphis or MTX amplifier. Go to ebay, specifically search for memphis then in the search options make sure to put in mono or 1 channel. All memphis mono block amps are 2 ohms stable. In particularly I would recommend for you the PR series. it is the Power reference series and they are really boomy for the money. Anything that has the "ST" is getting a little old so I wouldn't recommend it but It still is a good amp, just not sure how long it would last and how badly it's been beaten in the past. Good luck. If you find an amp and are unsure let me know which one and I can help verify it for you.
