Why a black screen on xps l701x w7 i7 1.73

Black screen - no flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - no picture at all, i.e. the initial Dell start-up screen doesn't show up either:
- LCD is dead or isn't getting a signal - not an easy fix; or
- the LCD isn't being sent a signal - holding down the function [Fn] key and press display Function key to toggle through its settings (LCD panel only, Rear VGA output only, both LCD and VGA output)

Black screen - flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - the screen goes black after the windows loading screens come up but before the windows login screen comes up - it is probably a windows video driver problem. Try starting in Windows Safe Mode with VGA. Press [F8] after the Dell startup screen disappears to access the windows startup menu

Having with my dell inspiron window 7 laptop(hard drive/corrupt registry) how do I restore it too factory setting?

If you have tried every system restore point, that is when you open system restore you checked show more points, and have tried all of them, then you must reinstall the OS.

If you don't have a windows disk, you can download win 7, it is legal to download and use for 30 day's, but then you are suppose to register it.

If you download it, you should check the hash number, but it's not a second deal, you would need to read about how to do this.

I will post a link for win 7 downloads, for the most part I can say these are not touched, they are ok.

These are ISO files, so you need a software like free ISO burner, this will open and burn the file to a DVD disk, now you have a win 7 install disk.

You can also use the win 7 disk to repair windows, so if you do burn it, try repairing windows with it first.

Here is a link if you need to see how to install win 7, with pictures.

Here is where you can get win 7, pick the version you have now because the serial key only works for that version you have now.

Dell XPS Studio PC Desktop

Remove all USB attached devices like drives.

You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose Safe Mode).
Win 7 - Start > Start > Search type System Restore.
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.

Uninstall last program(s) that was installed, again in safe mode.

To eliminate possible bad RAM. Unplug PC, open case, and remove all RAM. Test one DIMM at time, one slot at a time.
Re-install Windows. Clean install works best, but all data will be lost.

Lastly you may have other hardware problems. If it does another blue screen after reloading windows, especially with a clean install.

Why won't my compaq presario 1250 load windows?

1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode).
Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.

2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

I can not reboot my Dell Studio XPS 1645 running Windows 7, because everytime I try reboot my computer the Windows Dianostics Utility keeps on starting up. I tried to use my Windows 7 installation...

Sounds like you've tried everything except a complete reinstall. If there is information you need off that computer the hard drive will need to be taken out and plugged into another PC as a second hard drive then all can be copied. Then try a complete reinstall and good luck with that. If any problems doing a reinstall i would look at the ram. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

Dell XPS M1210 broken

I'm thinking you might be having a hard drive problem or the file structure is really messed up.
You had Win 7 and tried to install Win XP. Now it is confused, no doubt.
Here's the first thing I would do:
Put in your Win XP disk and boot from it.
At the first question it asks (about repair or install) choose repair.
It will then ask you which Windows Installation--choose #1 if it's there.
Hit enter if it asks for your password.
Now at the command prompt, type chkdsk /?
Depending on your version of XP, it will show you the switches you can use. Use the one that checks the entire drive. Might be chkdsk /P or maybe /F
Anyway, use the one that does the whole drive and let it run. Then try your reinstall unless you have file problems that aren't fixed.
BTW--your Dell should have a utilities option if you hit F12 at startup that will allow you to check your hard drive.

I have a dell xps m1210. i am doing a system restore. what will happen?

If you load a system restore point (Windows System Restore) the system will have the software settings returned to the way they were on the date the restore point was created. Any software install after that point will need to be reinstalled.

If you run a PC-Restore this RE-IMAGES the system to the way it was when it arrived from the factory. EXACTLY like it was the 1st time it was turned on. All Data files and software installed on the system will be overwritten.
