The first thing to do is to determine if it is the speakers or the computer that is having issues. Plug the speakers into an MP3 play, disk player or some other audio device that has a headphone jack and verify they work. If they do, then you need to determine why the computer is not sending sound to the jack. When you right click on the speaker icon, and select "Open volume mixer" there should be multiple sliders to turn up. Make sure the internal speaker/headphone jack volume is up (and mute not selected) as well as the "applications / windows sounds" volume. comment back to me if you require further assistance and if so, include the model computer and operating system in your comments. Good-luck - Subdriver

Sound but not audible coming from speakers.

If the problem does not depend from the source, then that sounds like an internal fault on your Bose system.

Leave the Bose unplugged from power and from computer for one hour, to get rid of electrostatic charges accumulated inside capacitors.
If that does not get rid of the problem, then there is an internal fault, either a short on speaker wiring, or a fault on the internal amp circuit board.

Scratching (static) noise coming from computer speakers

I foudn this in anther forum:
I have an ASUS motherboard P5E3 Premium. The audio that came with it was the Sound Max audio. I also noticed abnormal sounds coming from the speakers. They included sounds during hard drive activity and also with mouse movement. They were not loud but noticable. I searched all over the web but didn't find the answer. I stumbled across the fix myself. I also have vista-64. In the sound control panel > speaker properties > levels... there is a pc beep slide bar. I noticed that if it is disabled then the abnormal sound went away completely. Problem solved. Hope this helps.
