Yr auto transmission seems to be the problem. There are numerous rubber seals inside the system and may have worn off. It will usually happen when the ATF oil is hot. Stop the engine, let it cool off for about 20-30 minutes and the car will move forward in D mode. This will allow you to drive to the nearest mechanic shop. If you stop in between and put from D to R and back to D, the car will not move forward again because the oil is already hot and the seals could not withstand the pressure inside the gearbox. Then repeat the above instruction again. It is wise to replace or overhauled depending on the circumstances, that is the price.
I just had the same problem my truck felt as though it shifted into neutral after transmission got hot and then when it cooled it shifted normal, transmission lost high gear. if your car starts right away the maybe its your neutral safety switch. hope this helps, I am not a transmission guy, just what I would check first.
Hi, Check and see if the ****** has locked up... try to turn the motor shaft and see if it will move... if not then the transmission is locked... ie. broken... If it will move then the motor is caput...or broken... replace the motor...
SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION GETTING HOT CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.IF LEVEL OKAY FLUID + FILTER BEEN CHANGED MAKE SURE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES TO RADIATOR NOT PLUGGED CAUSING TRANSMISSION OVER HEAT. OR LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID.
