SOURCE: Compaq laptop problem
I am still testing on the battery and so far no problems with the flash drive in. The slow booting is due I think to Avast updating the virus database at the same time. Otherwise it boots OK. I am getting an error at shutdown "SynTPLpr failed to initialize properly" I have also noticed that I don't need to click on the user login at boot time, only place the cursor over the name and it takes off by itself.

SOURCE: Battery not recognized
If the battery is beyond charging, it might not be recognized but, all that I've seen could recognize it . There are 6-8 terminals on most batteries. 2 of them close the circuit indicating a battery is in place. If you have access to another battery that is made for your computer, try it. If you still don't have a battery indicated, you could have a problem in the charging system or the bios.

Since the system is not seeing the batteries the apparent fault is the motherboard connection for the battery. If under warranty , contact Dell, in not, you can try and purchase a replacement motherboard on EBay.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion ZD8000 - Battery
i have the same situation. The workround I use is this...
Start the laptop with the mains disconnected
Once Widows is running plug in the mains adaptor
The battery will charge correctly, the laptop will run on the battery if the adaptor is unplugged
Second method if the battery is flat
Start up with the battery removed
Once windows has started - plug in the battery
The battery will charge correctly
I have found no permanent solution so I use method 1 mostly

Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color.
Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works.
Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.
hope this helps
