Question about Bowflex Treadclimber

1 Answer

When on the treadclimber I get up to 2.7 MPH it will shut down after about 3 minutes. Is it a belt problem, too much friction causing to much heat in the motor?

SOURCE: Bowflex TC 1000 treadclimber causing power surges

You are not on a dedicated circuit the amp draw must be significant thus pulling down the voltage causing your grief. Find a and outlet that is not on the same circuit your electronic units maybe in another part of the house. Or put in a new circuit if you have a vacant in the breaker box, but that need a qualified electricians to do the job$$$$$

Treadmill shuts down once you speed up

Since you didn't say the manufacture or model I will just give general information that can cause problem. Most treadmills use a DC motor feed back system even through its plugged into an AC outlet. This allows user to control speed. As speed increases the unit draws a higher voltage DC which intern causes a higher amperage in your AC. So lets say yours is a 15 or 20 amp at 110v as you increase that speed it draws more ampage it causes more heat if the heat gets to hot it will shut down the unit. What can cause this if you use an extension cord of the wrong gage. If cord feels hot to or warm its to small. Friction between the belt and the deck. Their are waxes you can blow under the belt which reduce friction see the manufacters instruction. This will lower amp draw and keep unit running cooler. Weight of person has a very high effect on amp draw. Most treadmills have a weight limit. The higher the incline while jogging the more impact on belt and deck makes motor work harder causing unit to heat up. In otherwords anything that increases friction increases heat. You didn't say if new or older unit. Electronics wear with age and break down again mostly due to heat. So keep unit away from heat sources. Hope this helps.

Why does my Bowflex TC5000 cut out?

If you're running the machine on a dedicated circuit then your unit is drawing too much current. This can be caused by friction and drag. Solution: Lube deck/belt. If problem persists, replace deck/belt. If you ignore this fix this will blow your controller. .

Treadmills are shutting down after persons are running on machine. The power is tripping, shutting down. After break or machine is turn on it works again

Chances are the treadmill started by shutting off in the middle of a workout and has gradually gotten to the point that it will not run long, or turn on at all, in some cases. This is most likely caused from a worn deck and belt. If the belt and deck is not routinely waxed, it wears down and causes friction. This friction builds up heat which can fry your electronics. The machines circuit breaker shuts the machine down to protect the major electronic components. This protective measure, built in by the manufacturer, will only help for so long. After a few times of shutting down due to the heat, it actually does damage to the electronics. The result and correction usually ends up being a new deck, a new running belt, and in most cases that have gone on too long, the motor control board. Burning smells are most commonly associated with the following problems:

1) Very high belt/deck friction.

2) Short in the motor.

3) Short in the wiring or electronics.

4) Literally cooking the lacquer or cardboard core (on cheap machines) in the motor from belt friction or a drive system

obstruction.

Friction is the #1 cause of this problem. Many cheaper treadmills have a motor with a cardboard core (people wonder why we are so

down on cheap treadmills) and if the voltage and amperage through the motor heats it up sufficiently, it begins to smolder. If this is the

case, you normally have to replace the belt and the motor and inspect the deck. If the armature has cooked enough in the motor, you

also have to replace the motor

It sounds like the belt is bogging down, this condition is when the treadmill operates normally without a person on the belt and then slows down when someone steps on the belt or when the treadmill operates normally for a given period of time with someone on the belt then abruptly begins to slow down.
The only certain way to test for a worn walking belt is to take a DC amp draw . Trying to look at the belt or a feel test is highly unreliable. Better tests, if you lack a DC ammeter (they are expensive for a good one), are a coast test or an incline test.
The coast test is to get on the treadmill as the lowest incline setting and walk on the treadmill at 3 MPH. Pull the safety key and it should take you 2-3 full steps to stop fewer steps indicate high friction.
The incline test is to put the treadmill at max incline and walk on it at 3 MPH. If the treadmill operates normally at max incline but bogs down at minimum incline, replace the walking belt. Gravity takes over for the drive system eliminating much of the friction problem. On some heavily worn walking belts, this test will not eliminate the problem.
