The Bios wont recognise the HDD (hard drive)

I am installing a new HDD to upgrade size, the bios cant see the HDD, i am wondering if it is the BIOS (v1.40) or something else, also the motherboard was rebuilt after my mom put the power plug into the LAN port. We have had problems with the old HDD also, but I assumed it was old.

You are correct your bios needs to be upgraded
Go to Toshiba's site and, download the upgrade and, follow the directions to install it then;reboot.
Do not unplug or, turn off the computer during the upgrade for any reason and, have the battery installed and, fully charged when you start the procedure.

Compaq Mini 700EL hdd not recognised

If you are installing Windows XP then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hello, Where could I find a driver for WD5000KS SATA? I am trying to upgrade my desktop PC to Win 7 but when installing it, the setup could not detect the SATA HDD and asked me to load the HDD driver. ...

Check in your BIOS,first make sure the SATA controller is set to native mode and not RAID, and secondly that the BIOS can detect the drive, if the drive can't be detected by the BIOS then it's because the drive surpasses the boards drive size limitation.; If this is the case there is a chance a BIOS update may fix it but it's not guaranteed it will.

CANT CONNECT A 1TB SEAGATE 7200RPM HDD. oRIGINAL BIOS ON MOTHERBOARD

The BIOS may not be able to support a hard drive of such a large capacity. Check the motherboard manufacture's WEB site to see what size hard disk the BIOS can support. There maybe a BIOS upgrade that will allow the motherboard to support larger hard disk capacity.

HDD upgrade to extensa 6601 Wlmi.

The BIOS determine the maximum size hard drive that can be installed in the laptop. Put a smaller hard drive in the laptop say 120Gb hard drive, you will lose approx 10% in the formatting process.
Use the 180GB in another laptop or put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as a portable external hard drive.

You could also try setting the jumper on the hard drive to "limit to 1.5gb/s".

Bios won't reconise 160 gig maxtor harddrive

You could try a BIOS update to increase the size of the Drive the BIOS is able to see.

The second last one indicates that drive sizes are supported over 65GB. It may still not be able to see the 160GB HDD, but this is your only option with this Board. You could always upgrade the Motherboard to support larger drives.

Good Luck.

Hi

You query did not give any clues abt the PC/Motherboard and its BIOS revision.

That said if the PC/BIOS will not "see" the HDD then its is unlikely a cause of a virus.

Some old motherboards can't recognise a HDD if its size is more than 137GB. Some older motherboard also require than you set the HDD jumper correctly (Master or Slave).

At this stage, i am assuming the HDD in question is PATA or IDE (Old Spec). If the HDD is SATA (New Spec), then you will need a SATA port to connect the HDD. Ensure not to use both "old" molex power connector and "newer" SATA power connector together.

If the HDD is SATAII but the SATA spec for your motherboard is SATAI (initial spec), some motherboards and SATAII drives require that you jumper the HDD to allow it to work at the lower SATA speed.

If none of the above points apply try upgrading your system BIOS of the latest version. Also review the mortarboard's manual for more info.

Regards
Mike
