Being detected on the BIOS does not mean that the HD is working. You need to isolate the problem. Please follow the steps below:

1. Connect the hard drive into different computer (set it to slave) to make sure that the HD is working correctly.

2. Make sure that the HD is formatted.

3. Check the Disk Management on the Win ME and make sure that the HD will be detected.

4. If the HD is not detected, check the physical connection and clean the contacts (pins, IDE cable).

If the HD is not even detected on the other computer and under the Disk Management of your Win ME, then there could be a possibility that the HD already quit working.

Can you boot the computer from a boot floppy?
If so, try and partition and format the drive with fdisk and format.

WHEN I TURNED ON THE PC AFTER THE WINDOWS LOADING SCREEN I ONLY GET A "OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND" MESSAGE HOW CAN I FIX THIS>

You will have to install a new operating system. If there is valuable information on the hard drive of your desktop, I suggest a linux distro, as it will not format the hard drive and your information will stay safe. These operating systems are free as well. However most people find these operating systems hard to use, and much prefer the Windows based operating systems. To install a Windows operating system you will need a cd with all of the components on it, you may have gotten one when purchasing your computer, or you can buy one for around $200. If you are not secure enough in installing your own operating system, take your desktop to a local computer repair store and ask to have a new operating system installed. On average this will cost anywhere between $300-500.

Currently have a samsung floppy drive device manager shows its installed but not showing in computer bios changed to make as default boot device system doesn't recognize it have a PANASONIC product...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to either swap floppy drive or boot up floppy seek both could be disabled press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
(note after you have loaded the operating system you must go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive)
hope this helps

Go into the BIOS by pressing f10 when powering on the laptop.

Go to System Configuration and choose Device Configuration

Scroll down to SATA Native Mode and disable.

Press f10 to save configuration. The computer should reboot and press f9 to select boot device.

See if the 160GB hdd is now showing as an option. If it is then you are in luck.

p.s: You may need to update the BIOS to the latest if it still does not show up for you.

SHOW IN SYSTEM BIOS BUT NOT SHOW IN BOOTSEQUINCE.

If its not in the boot sequence then the bios doesnt consider it bootable, is this drive an operating system drive from another computer? It will only boot an operating system thats been installed on the computer you're trying to boot from.

Hard disk not detecting

It is very likely that your motherboard is not capable of handling large HDDs. Too bad, friend. Use a smaller one, or may be two of them.

I installed a new hard drive, getting media error

Make sure your hard drive is being recognized in the BIOS. If it is then go ahead and install your operating system and any drivers you need for your hardware.

If its not being recognized then take out the hard drive and reseat the hard drive back into its slot. Go back into the BIOS and see if its showing up now. If not then more then likely the new hard drive is faulty. Best way to verify this is to try a good known working one in there and go in the BIOS to see that its showing up.

DFI is the board manufacturer. They may or may not offer support since this is a really old board by computer standards. Hope this helps.

Lacie Hard drive not recognized

If your computer recognized the hard drive before you have installed your last operating sistem(s) that can be the problem. Your operating sistem or BIOS is not seeing your hard drive any more. Installing a new operating sistem is going to solve your problem but try another one, not the operating sistem you used until now.

Mother board or CpU Doesnt work. technician said I have a ghost inside my CPU!

verify your bios settings with regards to what the pc is expecting in way of hard drive.
Do you have the luxury of another hard drive that you can try on this pc ? - this will 'suggest' where the problem rests.
Make sure the lead is fully located on the back of hard drive.
If possible - change the lead for a 'known working' lead (Maybe from the computer that your hard drive was recognized in)
