I tried changing the name of the 5.0GHz network on the router to something different than the SSID of the 2.4GHz network, but the laptop still does not 'see' the 5.0GHz network when I do a scan.

My smartphone has no problem finding and connecting to it, once I changed the name, but the laptop doesn't even see it.

The answer is NO. I found it on my own, but passing along the answer in case someone else has this same inquiry.

Your answer is incorrect, Joe Cooper. I found out that the laptop does indeed, NOT support 5.0GHz wireless, but it's not because 802.11/n does not support it. Fact is, 5GHz frequencey is quite common with type 'N' networks. The reason the laptop does not support 5GHz is simply because the built-in networking card does not support it.

No, the laptop uses 802.11b/g/n type wireless, which is 2.4Ghz only.

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5125 -

The Toshiba Satellite has a helpful program -- the Toshiba Wireless Manager -- to eliminate some of that frustration. Connecting to a wireless network using the built-in wireless usb wifi adapter on a Toshiba Satellite may require making some initial changes to the Satellite's settings. These changes can be made using the Toshiba Wireless Manager. As with all wireless networking, the settings of the laptop must match the settings of the network.

I just turned my computer on and it is not recognizing my network. I get an error message "check to make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on" What wireless swithch?

There's a little switch, usually along one side, that slides back and forth. It will completely disable wireless. It is there for using your laptop on an airplane, or if you just want to make sure you are not connecting to wireless network. Check closely all around the laptop and you should find it.

Wireless network adapter won't turn on

Hi there.
It sounds to me that the Atheros wireless card may have gone bad, in some cases this does happen.
Check in the bios to make sure that the wireless adapter is enabled, apart from that i cannot suggest anything else as you have just about troubleshot everything a PC technician would do before coming to the conclusion that its the hardware which is at fault.
If the machine is still under warranty then please take advantage of that, if not then a reputable PC repair shop will be able to fit a new card in the laptop and they will make sure it works before it comes back to you.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Linksys wireless notebook adapter 2.4 GHz??

Since your Toshiba has a wireless card built in, you wont derive much benefit from using it.

It is basically there for people who don't have built in wireless cards.

Wireless network disconnection sometimes

The Toshiba Satellite A210 has a built in wireless adapter - at least all of the ones I did a quick check on the specs. If yours has a built in wireless why are you using an adapter??? Presuming you have a good reason - have you gone in and disabled the built in wireless? They could be conflicting. Second I would use Network Magic software to setup your home network. I struggled many hours and could not get everything to work the way I wanted - all problems with home network fixed in minutes with Network Magic. I do not work for them or anything but I will tell you it is the best software money I have ever spent - and I have been around since 10MB was a dream hard drive.
