Lawm mower blade adapter removal

The blade adapter on my craftman model #917.377540 is stuck. I have tried hitting it with a lead hammer to loosen it. Also tried using a 3 jaw puller and still nothing. On my other craftsman mowers they always slide right off. Am I doing something wrong here? I need to remove it to take off the drive belt cover and change the belt. Please help!

I use a two jaw puller to take them off. Screw the blade bolt partially back in the hole so not to damage the threads, hook jaws on each side and they always come off. Penetrating oil could help.

When going over deep grass there is a metal sound. It's like the blade is hitting against something. Is this a common problem with this model? How could I fix this issue?

Hi Andrew:
It is quite possible that the blade is bent or the metal "grass discharge guide" has been damaged.
If you have a pickup truck handy and you can put the mower facing outward on the tailgate, this procedure is easier.
- remove the spark plug lead to ensure that the mower cannot accidentally start.
- Push the handle down so that the mower is tilted back and the underside of the cutting deck is exposed.
- slowly rotate the blade and see where it contacts (or has been contacting any metal parts.
- remove and replace the blade if it has been bent. (They can be straightened but it is not recommended)
- Use 2 hammers (one as a "dolly") to straighten or repair any bent sheet metal.
- Replace the plug lead and go cut grass.
Cheers

Remove pulley from mower deck blade shafts

take belts off, loosen big nut on top of shaft, leave that big nut on the shaft just a few threads then take a hammer and tap on that nut to loosen the shaft from the bearings, take nut off then the shaft should fall out, if your bottom bearing is stuck on the shaft itself its gunna be fun to take that off, but if it didn't get stuck then take a punch and hammer to the bearings go thru the top to get the bottom one and vice versa, your gunna need a hammer for most of it, hope this helps its not that hard

How to remove stuck blade bolt on MTD Mower model 449

Jeff:

First make sure that you are loosening the blade bolt (Are you turning it in the right direction?) Turn the mower on it's side and lodge a piece of wood between the blade and the body of the machine and really crank on that wrench. The blade bolt is probably rusted in the crankshaft.

How to change drive belt on crafsman platinum model 944360080

since i dont see a drive from the front of the mower and i no its a rear wheel drive, usually u will see a belt system in the back above the deck. flip the mower over and u should see the belt going from the rear to the cutting blade. U Have to remove the blade and then with a hammer or mallet hit the spindle that sits above the blade not to hard! just enough to shock it a bit until it loosens and comes off, from there it shouldnt be to hard.

hope this helps

Cannot loosen or tighten a loose impeller blade bolt on a ryobi leaf blower, rgbv3100

After taking the housing apart grab the opposite end of the impeller shaft with a good set of channel locks (my old standbys weren't sharp enough). Then while holding it tightly hit the old impeller blade with some sharp raps with a hammer, knocking the blade loose (hit the blade at a tangent, it loosens to the left like a regular nut and bolt). Once the impeller is loosened it can be unscrewed by hand and replaced.

Trying to change belt for push mower , cant figure out how to get it off shaft , plastic guard off shaft , this belt is for the self propelled front wheels

If you have a large enough work bench it will make this a lot easier to do but it can be accomplished on the ground.
Lay your mower back on its handle bar and brace it with something heavy enough to hold it in place. This will keep your oil from running out into the air filter and/or into the cylinder as opposed to turning it over on its side.
Spray a bit of good penetrating oil around the shaft ABOVE the blade adapter and let it soak for a bit.
Remove the bolt holding the blade to the blade adapter then using a small hammer, gently tap downward on the blade adapter as you pull on it at the same time. Avoid striking it with enough force to break it. They usually slip off with just a little bit of effort.
Now you should be able to remove the plastic belt guard from the shaft and access the belt.
If you can't work it off the shaft pulley, remove it from the transmission pulley first. You will also need to remove the cover from the top side of the mower in order to replace the belt.
You didn't give a model number so I don't know if there are any screws securing the bottom guard but most of them just sit there on top of the blade adapter and slide into a cut-out area of the deck
