Question about GE Washing Machines

Open Question

No difference in agitation speed between normal (fast) and gentle (slow) cycles.

GE WPSE4270AOWW Works just fine in the normal cycles, but the gentle cycle no longer slows the agitation speed. The agitation speed remains the same in normal (fast) and gentle (slow)cycles.

SOURCE: washer problem

THE SPEED SELECTOR SWITCH MAY BE SHORTED CAUSING THE MOTOR TO TRY AND RUN ON BOTH THE LOW AND HIGH SPEED WINDINGS. THIS WILL PULL TOO MUCH CURRENT AND TRIP THE BREAKER.
THE MOTOR WINDINGS FOR THE HIGH SPEED COULD BE SHORTED CAUSING EXCESSIVE CURRENT DRAW.

Your transmission is not engaging thats why the speed changes your making will sometimes get it to work.Honestly any machine after the 10 year age mark is not worth the cost of replacing the transmission.

SOURCE: slow agitating

Sounds like a failure in the gear case but the burning smell makes me wonder if you have a problem with the motor. You will need a appliance tech to verify

check the 4 rubber cords at the top of the tub. If the washer has been moved they may need to be adjusted, you can see them by looking between the top of the tub and the top cover. You can turn them with your hand, and you may need to tighten them after.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question%$^#%&

we can eliminate the motor and the switch since that part is working. sound like your timer might be faulty, timer make everything work in persistence cycles, if its goes bad sometime it tend to jump/skip cycles.

I have a GE clothes washer, model# WKRE6280D0WW, and the agitator has stopped working. It just spins freely in the drum. The wash setting has always been on normal/fast, but a few days ago, I set it to...

What you have is a bad drive block. Grab the agitator and snatch it off. The block is bolted to the tranny.
54b9ead.jpgWH43X10009 is the part number. Not very expensive nor hard to replace. the agitator snaps onto this block. The block is plastic andit has splines in it. they wear down smooth and cause the washer to do just what you describe.Read more

Ultimate Care II - Rinse Cycle does not start

sounds like a lid switch problem. is there a clicking noise when you open and close the lid?
if not then the lid switch may need to be replaced; inexpensive.
this could also be caused by a bad timer.
also try a different speed for the rinse cycle, it may be a bad motor and it is not going into a certain speed. instead of gentle or slow speed try fast or normal, something like that.

Delicate cycle works fine, other 2 cycles will fill but will not agitate or spin

It's probably the motor. Most times, the motor has separate windings for slow and fast speed. Before spending $120. 00 on a motor, I'd get a $5.00 voltmeter to confirm this. You can use the tech sheet to find which terminals on the motor are the fast speed windings, and check the resistance. Be sure to unplug the motor plug first. It should read about 8 to 14 ohms.

If the motor is good, the timer is the next likely candidate. Withoput knowing which machine you have, this is the best I can do.
