Question about Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook

2000 142 error

I had a 2000 142 error on my Dell Inspiron. The laptop was working fine and I only discovered a problem during a routine scan disk with recovery of bad sectors. It would stick at 54% in stage 5 of 5. After a few attempts ,it would hold at stage 4. They had me pull out the cd/dvd disc drive and then re-ran the FN power up. Then the error was 2000 146. They gave me a replacement hard drive. I guess my question is--was this a correct t/s procedure?

Yes, bad sectors are a sign that the hard disk is about to fail sometime in the near future. Scan disk tried fix and lock out these sectors so the system cannot use these areas and move the data from these areas to an unaffected areas on the disk, unfortunately the hard drive's disk surface was so badly damaged it was unable to complete the job.

I have a dell inspiron 8500. Occasionally it would go through post and come up with disk read error press ctrl alt del to restart then it came up with the ntfs.sys file was missing. I manually reinstalled...

you could run the check disk utility
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive or
control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
hope this helps

I need to run system recovery for a Dell inspiron 6400, I do not have recovery disks. How do I set it back to out of the box specs?

If ctrl + F11 doesnt work when you first boot up the laptop, then you dont have a restore partition and you will need to reorder restore disks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I am getting the error message 2000-0146

This error code is part of the DST (Disk Self Test). Unfortunately that particular error code is telling you that there are previous errors in the log. There are multiple things that can easily lead to hard drive errors.

The first thing I would do is a checkdisk. To initiate this, open My Computer. Right-Click on the C:/ drive and select Properties. Click on the tab that says Tools. And there is an option that says "check now" under Error Checking. Select both options on this tab: Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

This will likely give you a message saying it's unable to check now and will ask to do so on the next reboot. Restart your system and wait for the scan to finish. After this, check your logs and see if you're still getting the same errors.

Audio Problem after every reboot

hello an welcome:
1st use only the dell drivers from there web site.
2: remove the crystal 7,8,9 from your system ,
add remove software in control panel
3: run and load the dell software modules for sound.

reboot.

put the dell back to its original condition driver wise.
the dell comes with disks than allow recovery.
If you are missing these disks then the repairs get real hard.
Also you should be asking Dell too, how to do this after all it is there design.
log in to Dell and find your drivers is my answer.
