You do not need to connect the illumination wire that is to dim the radio when the lights are turned on. make sure you have +12v on both the red and yellow wire and ground to the black wire. the yellow should be unswitched and the red should be a switched source.

WIRE COLOR FOR A PIONEER KE-1818

I know this response is way late, but it may help someone else down the road. You only have 8 wires on the KE-1818 because it only has wires for left and right speakers, not left-front, left-rear, etc. Orange: Constant 12v
Red: Switched 12v
Black with spade terminal: Ground
Gray: Left +
Gray/red: Left -
Green: Right+
Green/Red: Right-
Black in the harness: Beats me. Illumination maybe?
Blue: Amp control wire

Constant 12V+ Orange Switched 12V+ Yellow Ground Black Illumination Gray Here you go. This is listed for an 85 to 89 Impala, but should still hold true.

I was installing an after market Pioneer CD Player into a 1993 Suzuki Swift. I installed it with all the right wiring and everything was working fine with the stereo. Once I turned the headlights on, that...

The adapter harness for the radio is probably not wired correctly. I'll bet you also have no tail lights. You probably wired the harness so that the illumination circuit for the factory radio is wired to the wrong terminal of the new radio, thus the problem occuring when you turned on the headlamp switch. I have seen this many times when someone is trying to wire a radio adapter harness without having access to the factory wiring harness diagrams for the vehicle...the wire colors on the adapter harnesses don't allways match the wire colors of the factory harnesses. You need to know which wire is which and wire the correct wires together regardless of what color they may be. If you wired it simply by the wire colors, it most likely is not correct.
If you are lucky, it only blew the fuse for the tail/dash lamps. It is possible that you now have some serious vehicle wiring harness damage caused by the short circuit that was created.
I would disconnect the new radio and get the car fixed first. Then you need to find out which of the wires in the factory harness is for the illumination circuit and make sure that nothing is connected to it on the adapter harness. Most aftermarket radio/stereo systems do not use this circuit at all.

We are tring to install this model CD player into my 1999 Honda Accord. All wires are accounted for except for one remaining orange and white wire for "illumination". Where does this wire go?

you do not need it. It will only make the display on the radio dim when you turn head lights on.

If you used a harness adapter, it would connect this correctly so it will work. If you cut the harness, that was a bad move.

Just make sure you tape up the end of the wire so it doesn't short.

you may have spliced into the illumination wire as your auxillary power. use a volt meter to check and see if either of your power wire recieve 12.0 to 13.8 volts when you have your headlight on. if you do then you have used the wrong power wire

Wiring/Installation of Pioneer CD Player

You need to get an installation kit that also has the universal wiring harness to connect to the factory harness in the car. That way you only need to match the wire colors of the Pioneer harness to the wire colors of the universal harness and made good connections and insulate those connections. Then the Pioneer harness plugs into the Pioneer radio and the universal harness plugs into the factory harness in the car.

Let me know if this helps, or if you need more help.
