Question about GPS

Garmin nuvi 2455 won't charge on dc but charges on ac

My 2455 charges erratically while on dc cycling between charging and not charging - mostly not charging and the not connected to a power source screen pops up a lot during this - it has also rebooted on occasion. I am able to charge it on AC with no problem and the battery retains it's charge. I thought it may be a problem with the charger cable so got a new garmin branded one for my model and it had the same issue - so returned that cable. I also tried this in my cousins car thinking my rental may have a wonky cigarette charger but the same issue happens in my cousins car - so ruled out the cable and the car cigarette charger and as mentioned if I do charge it on AC the battery retains it's charge - so thinking it is not a battery issue. any other suggestions?

SOURCE: Quest Battery Problem

A battery for a Sony Clie N610C works perfectly, everything fits and its easy work to do. Just cut the leads off of your old battery and then solder them to the Clie battery (its on a little circuit board) and then install, my Quest II now has a functioning battery 15 minutes later.

SOURCE: Charging a garmin nuvi 255w

From dead flat it takes about 9-10 hours
do not leave on charger for more than that otherwise you will overheat and burn it out.
After each use recharge for about 3-4 hours depending on whether the unit has been used for that lengthyof time

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi will not load maps - why

Try the Hard Reset procedure outlined in this tip.

Does your Garmin Nuvi 205 or 205W Freeze at Loading Maps?
Does it lock up or stop working?

This tip will describe how to perform a hard reset of the device, and how to backup your 'Favorites' in case the hard reset erases them.

A hard reset (or Clear All User Data) has been known to resolve unit quirks and strange behavior after firmware updates. It's generally recommended to perform it after a firmware update but is not required by any means. However, if you're seeing quirks and strange behavior with your unit after the firmware update, it is a good idea to do a hard reset of the unit. It's also one of the first things that Garmin will have you do when contact tech support regarding quirky unit behavior.

Backup and Restoration Procedure for Favorites:

The Hard Reset procedure has been known to delete your Favorites, so back them up beforehand.

  1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  2. After the hard reset, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.
Perform the Hard Reset:

*Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit

  1. Power the unit off.
  2. Remove the battery and wait several minutes.
  3. Install the battery.
  4. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.
  5. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?"prompt appears.
  6. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data.

You have now performed a hard reset of your Garmin Nuvi 205 and 205W.

I hope that helps.

SOURCE: My Garmin Nuvi 760 will not power up either on the

Replacing the nuvi 760's battery is actually not all that hard as this video demonstrates:
The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to do this yourself if you'd like. See: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GARMIN+NUVI+760&Show=ExtInfo I swapped the battery of a friend's dying GPS using the aforementioned kit and all went well. His nuvi 760 is back up and running smoothly.

The limited directions tell me to charge my Garmin 1450 for at least 4 hours. How is that done without a charger? Will it charge with the computer cable? It seems that your site will not allow me to...

Hello,

The nuvi will accept a charge when connected to a computer if the computer connection is done through a powered USB port.
Garmin part number 010-10723-00 which is an AC power adapter is also available for charging the unit.

Garmin 350 cannot charge and nav at the same time

Your battery is faulty. Did it come with an AC Charger? Ac chargers do a better job than the car Dc which really only manages to maintain a reasonable level of input. i suspect your internal batter is critical and either needs a thorough charge or replacement

DC power will not properly charge the battery. It is possibly damaged. Change i. Preferably charge it via AC before using on DC.
But change battery....

New Nuvi 760 that won't work

Using the PC to charge a Nuvi is not the correct way to charge. Use either the AC wall charger or DC car charger. Many PC USB ports can not supply enough current to charge a Nuvi.

Yes. There are 3 ways to charge the Nuvi. Computer USB cable, 120VAC transformer wall plugin, and the cigarette lighter DC 12V plug for your car.

AC charging problem

okay if it charges with your DC, and it gives you plomebs with the AC, i would only charge in the car because your AC charger must not be changing the current to volts and you can easily blow it up... you can buy another charger and that should solve your problem
