  1. Remove the flywheel cover and pull the ground wire off of the off of the coil...
  2. Check for spark...
  • If you now have spark you have a "short to ground" some where in the in the wiring
  • If you still don't have any spark you'll need to replace the coil

Husqvarna weed eater starts , but blows alot of smoke & then stalls out

Rod, Carb. may need adjusted, try loosening gas cap and start to see if cap vent plugged, there is a in tank fuel filter that you could fish out and remove to see if it is plugged. If still not running remove muffler and clean spark arrester screen, if screen plugged the trimmer will do this.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

I rebuilt the carb as you advised. It took me a long time to get a kit because no one had one around here. I have new gas, new plug and still no go. I removed the plug and it was dry, so I put alittle gas...

Check to see if you have spark. This is done by removing the spark plug, connecting the wire to it placing it plug against the metal on the motor and pulling the starter cord. It is best to do this where the light is not bright because what you will be looking for is a spark on the spark plug. If there is a strong spark then that is good and will start it if the fuel/air ration is right. I hope this helps.

I have a craftsman 32cc weedwhacker trimmer and its brand new and it hasnt started from day one it isnt getting any spark at all

If you have spark problems, remove the wire and then remove the plug, reattach the wire and ground the plug to the engine and pull the string, you should see arc and hear it pop, if not, take the plug to another piece of equipment and remove that equipment's plug wire and attach it to the plug from the weed ******* and then ground it and test it. If still no spark, then plug bad, if plug then the weed ******* has a problem with the spark plug wire or the ignition coil.

If you have spark at first test, then the problem with the weed ******* is somewhere else.

Craftsman 32cc gas trimmer ran a couple times this season, then will not start. Changed plug, new gas mix, cleaned filter and spark arrestor. No luck. Pull cord is hard to pull in the first foot or so,...

Pull the spark plug and hold the side against the engine while pulling the string. check to see if there is a spark you may need another person to help. Was the air filter oily when you cleaned it? If so you might need to remove and clean the carburetor.

I'm having problems figuring out how to change or repair the string pull on a craftsman 22 inch gas hedge trimmer. It looks to me like you have to remove the clutch. How do you do that?

remove screws on both sides of plastic housings, remove spark plug, pull off plactic cap on the bottom side of the clutch plate. stick a wooden stick in that hole to keep the crank shaft from turning when you put an adjustabloe wrench on the clutch, unscrew clutch to get other half of housing off to get to the pull rope.
