Boot up and down

I have Toshiba Satellite M45-S355 my problem i that when i try to boot up my laptop i only get a portion of the screen to work there is about 20 % of black on the screen but the rest works, somtimes i haveto boot it up 4 times to make the whole screen to work... when i finally get it to boot up correctly and finish using, I try to turn it off but it stays on the shut down screen until i hold the power button and finally turns off. I've done a recovery of the system but still no solution

Same computer, pretty much the same problem....except just the other day it dosn't get into windows at all anymore. I think one odvious problem i found is that my laptop gets banged around a lot from diff. people using it, and i found that sometimes when i give it a little tap that it starts doing something...and i know its not helping at all, but i was wondering if it could be something loose. But first i tried getting to the "black" advanced startup screen w/ F8, sometimes it lets me and sometimes not....but i've tried starting it in every mode and even tryied w/ the reboot disc and press "r" for repair or "c" to redo my whole computer and nothing is working. So after a day or 2 of that, and before i read about this post, i've decided to take my whole laptop apart...and yes it was dirty. Cleaned everything and took the fan out and cleaned it, but didn't take the rest of it out. So i'm wondering now if there's a spot somewhere where the fan sits in, (that somebody mentioned about on here), that might still be clogged?!? But anyways i put it all back together and the same excact problem. I'm soooo tired of seeing that 3/4 toshiba start-up screen, and STILL not being able to get into windows!!!

Sorry if this is too long, but this was the only post i found with the same problem and a possible solution. If any of you guys found a solution to this, i would verry much appriciate it b/c i'm on the verge of saying "F-it" and buying another computer b/c this is deff. not the first time i've had problems w/ this thing, just the first time i couldn't fix it myself.

    Thanks in advance.

I tend to agree with heat sink problem. I will get partial screen, sometimes even blank screen, until I have allowed the laptop to cool off a bit.

I am going to try cleaning debris from the heat sink assembly.

I've had a couple of machines with similar symptoms.

The remedy will be one of a few.

Instead of a recovery, you may need to do a full system install.

The most likely problem is the heat sink/fan is getting clogged with debris, thus causing the system to run hot, which includes the video module. Cleaning this out is definitely something that needs to be done regularly in any case.

Also, the lcd cable may be slightly loose where it connects to the lcd.

Finally, it's possible that the video module is going bad... not much you can do about that.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

If you are not concerned with getting the machine running and just want to get the files removed from the hard drive then I suggest removing the hard drive from the machine and plugging it into a caddy that can be used on another computer to delete the files.

Enter setup, set it to use legacy mode for USB devices, and move USB to before the HD so it's seen beforehand on the bot menu. F12 will sometimes let you choose the USB device to boot from, but Setup needs to see the device first.

Thak you for yor query

To ensure the CD/DVD is clean please try booting from a known working PC, from what you are describing it may not be your CD drive

If the same thing happnes on another PC then it is the CD/DVD that is faulty, however if it works, then you can try to hook up a external drive, the laptop may defualt to it after trying all the other options i.e. CD rom drive, HDD etc

I want to connect my toshiba satellite m45-s355 to my tv. i cant seem to find out if it is HDMI compatible.

Your Notebook is NOT HDMI. HDMI is a little slot connector, and is clearly marked as such if the PC has it. Close to the Video out port.

Toshiba Satellite m45-s355 wont enter the bios setup

I removed the hard disk and then that way the system recognized the CD drive with the Windows installation CD inserted.

When the installation wizard started, I inserted the hard disk on its place and then it could be formatted and the windows and drivers installation ended successfully.

The odd part is that the M45-S355 shuts down after five to ten minutes of use. It does not happen in safe mode. Should this have to be with the processor´s fan?

Thank you.

Boot Up problem on a Toshiba Satellite M45-S355

Well, since the thread was posted, I've had an M55 come in with almost the same symptoms. I believe, in this case anyway, the video module's solder joints have started to break away from the motherboard. Very frustrating diagnostic on this.
Wish I had more help. I'd be happy to keep you posted on how this one comes out.
