The black stuff is called "Scrud".
It builds up over time from a combination of washing detergent and fabric softener.

Reach your hand down the middle of the agitator (middle pole) after removing the cap. There is a plastic wing nut that you can undo with your hand. The agitator can then be lifted out.

The other easy solution is dumping half a box of epsom salts in there (usually in the bath/ medical isle of the supermarket), run the machine empty, on HOT, Full load so that it fills all the way. Usually this cleans most of it out.

A more regular empty hot wash will prevent build up in the future.

tar is removable by the use of house hold kerosene or mineral turps. scrub the affected areas with a solution then place in washing machine on full wash cycle.

We have a Bosch SHU3307UC dishwasher. Two friends swear by theirs, saying they put everything in dirty and the load always comes out clean. That does not at all work for us. My wife has to just about wash...

Put dirty stuff in will eventually keep a tech like me very busy. We love to come and charge you alot for cleaning your dishwasher. Remember the Maytag commercials where they put a cake in it? Still got the dishes clean but before long it will cost you big time. Just run everything under the tap. Pot and pans should be lightly washed also. Watch how you place the dishes. Most dishwashers spray up from the bottom. Block it, and the spray will not reach the top.

Dishes are still dirty. I have used every kind of dishwasher aide, half loaded it and dishes are still dirty, I let the water run until very hot before starting the washer. The washer says you don't have...

Suggest the problem may be a plumbing issue - likely substantially blocked drain system, so the dirty wash water cannot properly pump out but rather remains in the dishwasher.

Suggest getting a plumber in to "snake" out your kitchen drain system. You will probably notice your sink drains will suddenly work much better too...

Does your washer smell? Is your rubber door seal gungy too?

If so then use 1/2 cup of Washing Soda Crystals (50p for a 1kg bag from most supermarkets)
set washer to 60 degree wash and run machine for full hot cycle with no clothes in it... just the Washing Soda.
I did this with my washer which literally reeked, and my friends have since done theirs and the results are amazing...
Go and check your drain when you finish too... mine sparkles now and it was gunged up before.. I now add a desertspoon of Washing Soda to every wash.... I place it in the crease of the door seal and little by little all the mould is disappearing, even though the hot wash cleaned the gunge the black spots remained. My washer smells so clean now and no more black flecks on the clothes either... (these are loose gunge from the outer drum, right inside the works of your machine...)

All the best

Black stuff in washing machine

You need to clean the filter out (look in your machine - it's on the side of the tub) then run a wash with a cup of vinegar in it (or on soak with napisan or something like that in it). It's just gunk build up.
