Wine fridge not cooling

The lcd display indicates the fans running, which they are the compressor icon in both zones in cooling mode.I can visually see all the fans working and can hear the compressor running. The temp inside the zones are 64f and the temps are set to 40f and 50f which call for cooling.I have left it running but the temp inside both zones is not cooling. The compressor runs and in about an hour gets hot and gurgling can be heard coming from it.It is only a year and a half old and everything else works great.

Sub Zero 642 side by side, refrigerator side not working.

If the refrigerator compressor runs and cools when you use the manual activation mode but does not run normally then the control board would be what I would suspect. If it has the manual activation then it is new enough to give error codes. If it is not running and not recognizing it's not running, something is wrong with the control. Unless you are seeing two dashes in the refr display. That would mean the refr section was disabled.

Why is there an occasional rattling sound from the rear?

Good afternoon Bob.

Wine coolers have a lot in common with mini-refrigerators. The cooling for the wine, to proper 'cellar' temperatures is done gently (one hopes) with circulating cool air that should keep the temperature stable, and the dust to a minimum.

The fan you hear is most likely one keeping the refrigerant compressor cooled off. Depending on how your unit is packaged, what you'll likely want to do is
  1. Unplug the unit. No pokey pokey into the guts of things plugged into the wall. Always err on the side of safe. Aside from shock rick, the small fans in fridges can actually cut fingers up pretty good if you let em.
  2. Look to the rear lower section of the unit and find the compressor(s) and associated fans and perhaps cooling coils. Much like with regular fridges, use a brush or a vacuum attachment to clear any dust bunnies or other debris off of the coils, compressors, and fans.
  3. Examine the fans. See if anything may have been sucked up into the blades or spindle - giant cobwebs, bits of thread of carpet fiber. See if the blade will spin freely, and whether it feels loose. If it won't move, or is obstructed, try to clear it and clean off any debris or fiber. If it will not move, the fan may have failed. You don't want to run a fridge this way, as the next thing to go after the cooling fan for the compressor is the compressor. At which point most honest techs will say 'buy a new fridge, I can't replace it for less than the fridge will cost you.
  4. You can also see if there is anything else obviously loose near the compressor or fan. There's a significant power surge needed to start the compressor, and the initial slow cycling may be making things shudder.
Hoping this is useful. Good Luck!

Fan runs, control panel lights up compressor not running unit not cooling. Any ideas as to why compressor not running?

could be a start run capacitor failed
I suggest that you get a fridge technician to check ti out first as a compressor is generally more expensive than a new unit.

Wine fridge is not getting cold anymore

Its really hard to determine without proper diagnosis, but are you sure it indeed has a compressor? does it run ? Does it have a circulating fan inside? A lot of the wine coolers I've dealt with were "Peltier" coolers. They use electronics to cool usually only to about 10deg below room temp. They require a load ( in this case wine bottles ) to operate properly. They don't have a cold control like a refrigerator.

Check the back to see if the compressor is running or just really hot. If it is not running it could be a thermostat issue, but if it is hot and not running, that means your compressor has problems and will need to be replaced.

Are these reading temps at 2 separate tstats or are you using temp sensors that send the temp back to the stat. It sounds like the sensor is not communicating with the stat.
