SOURCE: Sony Vaio VGN A-690 no battery detected

Yeah. If when you take out the A/C adapter, the laptop goes off immediately, even though you have bought a new battery, then it's definitely some hardware issue with the laptop itself. I'd say just live with it as it wouldn't be worth getting fixed (cheaper to get a new laptop).

If it can run on battery fine, it's just that windows indicates that the battery is not detected, then it could be a software issue. But given it's the same in Windows 7 as with XP, this could be BIOS related. Perhaps try flashing the BIOS?

Gateway NV5378u lap top, brand new battery installed and status says 100% charged. When I unplug the computer it shuts off as if there is no battery. Could the new battery be defective?

There are a few things to check. The LED lights can tell you a lot. This will tell you more about the battery:
  1. On the taskbar, double-click the power cord icon or battery icon to open the Power Meter dialog box. Note: If the power cord icon or battery icon does not appear on the taskbar, click the show hidden icons button.
  2. Press Fn+STATUS to view the power status box, which opens in the upper-left corner of the screen. The power status box shows the current power source, the battery charge level, and the power management mode.
  3. Look at the battery charge indicator (if applicable).
    • LED green - Battery is fully charged.
    • LED orange - Battery is charging.
    • LED blinking red - Battery charge is very low.
    • LED solid red - Battery is malfunctioning. Note: This LED only lights up when the notebook is connected to AC power.
  4. Press the battery meter button on the battery. The battery meter lights indicate the percentage of battery charge remaining.
  5. Wait for a Low Battery warning message to appear.
If your battery charge indicator displays what looks like an inaccurate charge, you may need to recalibrate the battery.

To recalibrate the battery as mentioned, try this:
  1. Connect the AC adapter and then turn on the notebook.
  2. As soon as it starts and you see a startup screen, press the F2 key.
  3. In the BIOS Setup utility, use the TAB key to select the Advanced menu.
  4. On the Advanced menu, select Battery Auto Learning, and then press the SPACEBAR to select Enabled.
  5. Use the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Exit menu. On the Exit menu select Exit Saving Changes, and then press ENTER.
  6. At the Setup Confirmation prompt, select Yes, and then press ENTER.
  7. The battery recalibration process begins and a screen opens showing you the progress.
  8. When the recalibration has finished, and the message "Press [Esc] key to exit" appears, press Esc. The battery charge indicator now displays an accurate battery charge.

Hope this helps!!

Change battery sansa ciip

If the MP3 player battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Battery has been charging to 100%. Suddenly would only charge to 76 percent. Now, after two weeks, will max at 62 percent. Computer is 1 year old. Can battery meter be recalibrated?

  3. Disconnect the AC power and restart your notebook.Note: If the power cord plug.gif or battery baticon.gif icon does not appear on the taskbar, click the show hidden icons showhidden.gif button. If the icon still does not appear, verify thatAlways show icon on the taskbar is checked on the Power Options Properties Advanced tab.

  4. Completely discharge the battery by doing the following:

    1. From the desktop, right-click on the power icon, then select Adjust Power Properties.
    2. Click the Power Schemes tab.
    3. Click the arrow button to open the Power Schemes list, then click Always On.
    4. Click the Alarms tab.
    5. Click to remove the check mark from the Low battery alarm and Critical battery alarm checkboxes. Let the battery drain until your notebook automatically turns off.

  5. After the battery is completely drained, reconnect your notebook to AC power.
  6. Charge the battery completely until the yellow battery status indicator goes out.
  7. When you are ready to use your notebook again, do the following:

    1. From the desktop, right-click on the power icon, then select Adjust Power Properties.

What happened: 1] My battery ran out. 2] I connected my phone to my Laptop so that it can charge 3] Usually the charging status shows on the phone. Not this time 4] I tried turning my phone on. But it does...

How long did you leave it connected to your PC?

Charging via a USB cable from a PC is slow - much slower than using a mains adapter. If the battery was fully discharged it might take ten minutes or so befor your phone has sufficient charge to turn on.

Alternatively try a mains charging adapter.

My battery is not recognised and doesn't charge

Check the battery status manually

To accurately measure the condition of the battery, the PC cannot be used during this test. This method will Test the battery by completely charging the battery then will determine how long it takes to discharge the battery. This test is done while the PC is operating in the Safe Mode and not being used for any other action. This test will require 1-3 hours depending on condition of the notebook PC. The PC cannot be used while you perform the following steps. Completing all the following steps will also calibrate the battery so that the power meter reading are accurate.
  1. Connect the AC adapter and allow the notebook to charge until the battery is charged to 99% - 100% of capacity.
    • To determine the percentage of battery power, with the notebook operating normally, right-click on the c00586951.jpgpower icon in the system tray, and select Open power meter . The Power Status is displayed.
  2. Shut down the notebook PC when the battery has charged to capacity.
  3. With the notebook turned off, connect the notebook PC to the AC power adapter that is plugged into a working wall outlet.
  4. Press and release the Power Button to start the computer.
  5. Press the F8 key several times when the HP Logo displays.
  6. When the Windows Advanced Startup Menu displays, select the Startup in Safe Mode option.
  7. Notice and record the current time as the Test Start Time with a fully charged battery.
  8. Remove the AC power adapter cable from the notebook PC.
  9. Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC turns off.
  10. Notice and record the Completely Discharged Time.
  11. Subtract the Discharged Time from the Start Time to calculate the Elapsed time.
  12. Record the time for future comparison or to provide to an HP support specialist if you suspect the battery is defective. NOTE: As with all batteries, the maximum capacity of this battery will decrease with time or use. Loss of battery capacity will vary depending on the product configuration and usage, including but not limited to: product model, applications running, power management settings, and product features. The battery warranty does not cover natural deterioration of battery capacity. Your battery is only warranted from defects in materials or workmanship resulting in failure. To determine if your battery has had a warranted failure you may be required to run an HP diagnostic.
After performing these steps.

--- Remove the batter and power cord
---After 5-10 mintues insert the batteryu and comment the AC Adapter and then Press the power button on the notebook for about 5 minutes .
If there is any power issue the issue may fix.

Battery charging status remains constant (not increasing)

I've have seen a number of different batteries do this, and I recommend what is called 're-conditioning the batteries. Do this by running the battery completely down to 0%. Then do a complete re-charge of the battery to 100% (if possible). If it charges to 100%, run it completely to 0% again and then recharge it. If it does not charge to 100%, then you may have a faulty or old battery which will need to be replaced. The AC adaptor and battery have circuitry in them and might be retaining incorrect info in them. They can be reset by unplugging them for a few minutes and then plugging them back in. There might be a specific sequence of what to unplug and when, in order to reset this circuitry. Try a couple of them. (ie. Battery, AC adaptor in to battery, AC adaptor into the wall, etc.)

Let me know what happens. Binary Bob

Discharging Battery

hmmm..try to run it with battery out completely, just from the power cord.

also, does the battery have one of those surface charge indicators, with the sliding scale?

also, plug the unit in overnight, off, and see if the adapter will charge the battery.

sometimes, you get voltage, but no current, and when the computer/battery come on line, the load will drop the adapter.

does the adapter light stay on, when connected to computer?
