Have plugged in new keyboard and one that I'm using now and keep getting the same message. Can't do F1 or any commands because keyboards won't work.

When I boot my computer it says Diskette drive 0 seek failure and underneath says Keyboard Failure. Can't go to any settings like F1 because keyboard is not working. Have tried different keyboards including this one and still get the same message.

Been trying to figure this out for weeks have you tried a Dell keyboard It has worked for others but not for me and no It won't boot from CD because u need the keyboard to press any key to activate boot I even tried a flash drive to boot but my boot sequence was messed up as well I had the same problem after trying everything from pulling jumpers resetting cmos battery and resetting bios making it worse got stuck at black screen keyboard failure and diskette drive zero failure I have no floppy drive installed even tried putting one in no luck then trying three different keyboards and calling Dell about inferior design and being told I had no warranty and they won't replace their faulty hardware my next plan was to purchase a pci card for the old school ps/2 purple and green keyboard and mouse inputs and try that otherwise people online also said to try a powered usb hub and see if that helps but before I purchased anything I gave it one last go and I remembered my buddy had broken his front usb port I checked it out with a flash light and sure enough it was shorted out inside the prong was bent and touching the inside of the usb ground I powered it down unplugging the power pushed the power button again to remove any power from the power source and took a Bobby pin and bent the usb prong so it wasn't touching anymore sure enough that was my solution no more unresponsive keyboard it booted right up and when I pushed a key it bleeped I knew I was back in business so before you purchase anything from a pci card or a new montherboard check all of your usb inputs front and back for damage and I hope that helps you how it helped me currently installing a fresh Windows Vista right now :)

How old is the computer, could it still have warranty? USB ports are often protected with fuses. Some latest stuff has resetable fuses, but many are one-time that do not heal. Did you try the keyboard in the front USB's The thing of biggest concern though is that this happened in coincidence, meaning you may have a motherboard hardware failure. (the reason I mentioned warranty)

Will it boot from a bootable CD such as Knoppix or your rescue CD? Any way to default the bios?

You are missing the OS.
If you have the restore CD's, use them to restore your Dell to original state, or you can order a set from Dell.
If you do not have a restore CD's you can also boot with a Windows CD and install the OS but you will have to go to the Dell website and download the drivers for your model.
I hope this helped.
Good luck and have a pleasent day.

I have a dell c521, and I'm getting a diskette 0 seek faliure ?

Hi,
Restart the computer and when you see the Dell logo.Tap on the F2 key a couple of times. You would enter the system setup.

1. Use your down arrow key on the keyboard and select the option Drives
2. Hit enter to expand the same
3. using the down arrow key again select diskette drive
4. Tap the right arrow key to switch it off.

Save the same changes by tapping on the ESC key on the top left of the keyboard.

PS. In case you have a floppy drive on the computer check if the drive is empty.

When my computer start up it keeps saying diskette drive 0 seek failure can you help me plz

if this machine has been worked on check that the diskett ribbon cable has not been put on the wrong way round it somtimes happens, of course the drive may have gone faulty , if you have not got a diskett drive,
when booting your machine hold down ctrl-alt-del this will put you into the cmos of the computer there are a couple of variations so without knowing what yours looks like it hard to comment but have a look round and you should find a section that has boot sequence (ie 1st boot 2nd boot) this is what is looked at 1st when booting the computer, once you find the disk drives using the keybord arrow keys navigate to the floppy drive then using the plus and minus key (far right keyboard) press until it says none , then press F10 to come out of the cmos you will normally be promted to save and exit (yes) the machine will reboot and the new setting will be applied, this time it will not look for the diskett drive so it should not report an error.

If you are given the option to go into the setup (F2) try to disable the floppy disk drive or move the hard drive up in the boot order.
