Question about Garmin nuvi 255W GPS Receiver
Purchased a Garmin 255w, registered device on garmin website,proceeded to download update for map, download failed at 73%. Tried again, same thing. Spent 2 hrs with garmin tech support only to have them tell me to return it and exchange for a new one. Brought new on home, same experience with download exactly at 73%. Spent another 2 hrs on website and phone. Message on gps unit reads "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing". Followed instructions on website FAQ covering message on unit but when it says "touch map info" this button is grayed out and is unusable. Can you help me before I return it once again and exchange it for a different manufacturer.
Plug your GPS into your PC and do not use the Garmin Express program. It will mount as a drive. Delete the maps and software. Then run Garmin Express and do a complete install of the maps and software.

You must call Garmin at 1-800-800-1020 they will walk you through plugging in nuvi to your computer (must have usb cord) and it will upload then go to my computer and choose garmin drive then click garmin folder and either find the folder they say or make new one like I did with the guy on the phone and put in code. The only information needed is the numbers on the bottom of the device.... super fast fix!

sounds like the map folder in the gps software got corrupted. you will have to connect your device to your computer, get on the Garmin website, and let the garmin site update your device. Once updated, it will re-install the correct folders and maps to their proper place. the gps should work as before after that.
