It could be that after you installed 10.5.7, that it caused some incapatibility.  You might want to try to revert back to 10.5.6 to see if that works.

Factory reset button on macbook pro

There is no 'Factory Reset' button as such. If you are running OS 10.7 to 10.10, then you need to start up from the 'recovery' partition (CMD+R) on startup. You will then be able to erase the hard drive using 'Disk Utility' and then re-install the OS.

Macbook pro won't startup

The '?' is due to the computer being unable to find a hard drive.
The most common reason is a hard drive failure, but could also be a SATA hard drive cable fault.
A replacement of the hard drive is required and then a re-install of the OS

How do you turn off DOS mode on a 13" MacBook Pro?

Is this a trick question? There is no "DOS mode" on a MacBook Pro.
Do you have WIndows installed as part of Boot Camp, and your machine is booting into Windows? To boot back into the Mac, either use the Boot Camp control panel in Windows, or hold down the Option key after you hear the startup chime and select the OS X partition to boot from.

Restart your mac. As it's restarting/booting up, hold down the command, option, R and P keys simultaneously. As it's booting up and you're holding these keys, you should hear the startup chime, continue to hold the keys down, it will cycle and you'll hear the startup chimes again. Let it go thru this cycle 7 (seven) times before you let up on those keys. Once it's cycled 7 times, let it boot up normally.
If that doesn't work, then reinstall the original system software that came with the Macbook. You may have to reformat the hard disk and do a clean install.
