Never spray directly on a screen. If the solution seeps into the underside (back etched side of the glass) it could damage the surface. You may have to get to the inside from the rear projection area or lift of the front glass screen and remove it completely. Usually the Rear surface of the screen is etched and can be wiped clean. Go to Bed Bath and get a good streak less windows cleaner. Spray it on a soft cloth and wipe the front and/or back glass. Wipe dry with a CLOTH, not a paper towel, and when dry use a flash light to see any streaks or blemishes left behind. Clean again is necessary. Do not apply pressure, gently clean and try not to cause scratches as they show up when the projection device flashes the image on the glass portion. Put it all back they way it was and enjoy.
I did see a similar issue with a Gateway display, the source of the image was the screen is damaged by the cover inside the screen. Basically, the inside frame was scratching the back of the screen making the image to appear until it damages the screen enough to turn off pixels.
Another possible cause are: "burned pixels", some kind of damage (liquids inside the display), the display was hit, or something like that.
The only solution is to replace the display or use it until is breaks (but it will be quite annoying).
I had the same sort of idea..bad color engine.Hitachi paid for upgraded replacement 'cause they had had so many similar problems with this model. My warrenty had expired so they did save me about $1200 but I was stuck with the labour cost approx $300...
