Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

My Samsung DLP TV model HL-S5686W had a few white dots (missing pixels) on the screen at the beginning and it has been adding about 2 new missing pixels every day. It looks like stars in the night sky. Before a new white dot becomes permanent, it will blink first showing that the blinking dot soon will become white. These missing pixel spots are fixed in locations. Has anyone seen this type of problem before? thanks.

The solution does not help as my TV has past the warranty period for quite some time. The plastic in the back did not expand and did not cause problem. Would like another's solution or opinion. thanks.

The solution is helpful. Thanks. I will get the mirror assembly (DMD board assembly) for my HLS-5686W and see that will fix the problem. Good to know that my problem is quite common among Samsung DLP TVs.

I am having the same problem. It started with one white spot and everyday 3 more would appear. The spots are now consuming my whole screen. I did my research and found that this is an ongoing problem with most Samsung DLP tv's. The cause is with the DLP Chip. I visited the Samsung store and found the chip for $218.00. I called Samsung and asked if the issue was for sure with the chip before I ordered it. The rep said that my television Model Code HLT5075SX/XAA is on the list for a one time free repair. I purchased my tv in 2008 and it is now almost 2013. They are placing a call to a local shop that will contact me within 48 business hours to set up a time to COME TO MY HOUSE and replace the chip for FREE.

You are not the only 1 facing this problem.there are thousands of users facing this same exact problem like yours.the samsung tv has this problems after the 2 to 3 year of period.
------------------------------------
The problem lies in the mirror assembly and you can find one online and replace it yourself if so inclined.

The part is here:

http://www.samsungparts.com/part_detail.asp?catalog%5Fname=Parts+and+Accessories&product%5Fid=BP96%2D01670A&search%5Fmodel=HLS4676S

the cost of assembly is $162
but get it repaired this time.but in near by future if you face this same problem dont go for samsung.go for panasonic models they are best and long lasting.
still your choise.

Hi

This is being caused by a failing light engine. This is a known problem. I will suggest that you call Samsung 1-800-726-7864 and complain about the problem. Persistent consumers can often get Samsung to extend the warranty to cover this repair. Also, I have read that several Samsungs have an issue where if the bulb gets too hot, the plastic on the back of the TV actually expands and causes the rear lamp door to be loose which may trigger the safety switch that turns off the TV if it detects the lamp door is open.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Hi , 2 weeks ago i noticed some dead pixels showing up on my screen (white dots) since then i'm up to 10 dead pixels. What can i do? I heard it might be the dlp projector that has to be replaced...

White pixels are STUCK pixels, not dead. Read the warranty beacuse at a certain number of stuck/dead pixels, the tv is repaired for free by the seller if is in warranty period.

Samsung, DLP TV 50 inches Model # HL-T5075X/XAA

Samsung just told me they wouldn't fix my tv because it was produced in Nov. of '06 and the only ones they would fix were made in August of '06 or earlier. I am way too angry right now to call the service tech number they so very nicely provided.

White dots on tv screen-HL=55686W

You have a faulty dmd board. That board is responsible for all the tiny mirrors and some of those mirrors are in the stuck on position. Replace the dmd board and the dlp chip and you will be good to go. I would recommend having an authorized service center do this as there can be some painful alignedment needing to be done.

When it powers off by itself, do the LED's on the front blink? All 3 or any combination of the 3?

OUR 52" rear projection tv is now unwatchable because of white pixels everywhere on the screen. Started with a few now thousands

it sounds like a lot of dust in the light engine lens.usually pixel defects are purple or black...question is your set a lcd or a dlp format? and how large are the dots. if real tiny it will be dust. if large it will be insects... have a qualified serviceman take a look.. good luck...

White dots appearing on Samsung TV screen and multipling each day

It seems you might have an issue with the dmd board. Go to the menu, and if the dots still show on the menu, the issue definitely is with the dmd board but if they don't come up on the menu, the issue will be with the video board.

I have a hl-s5686w samsung dlp tv, the problem is that it have dead points or dead pixels (a lot of white points)on the screen,if somebody know what is the solution to fix this problem. please let me...

ok well it seems to be an issue either with yoru DMD board or your Digital Video board, go to the menu and if those white spots are also showed on the menu, the issue is with your DMD board, but if they're not showing, the issue would be with your Digital Video board
