Question about Microsoft Zune JS8-00001 Digital Media Player
My zune freezes and the zune pad doesn't work. One of my friends said that if I disconnect the battery from the zune i could solve this, but how do I disconnect the battery?
Unfortunately to disconnect the battery you have to take apart part of the outside shell. I do not recommend that you try this immediately. First, try going on Zune's website and seeing if there are any software updates that you can get. Your problem may be this simple.

I have contacted Microsoft for this issue. They told me that only Zune 30GB piece has this problem. Reason is it has a bug in it which is unable to handle the Date: 31-Dec. So, the next day on Jan 1 it will be reset and will work normally.
Just discharge your Zune completely and then charge it fully on Jan 1st.

SOURCE: Zune won't restart after Z2K9
So, you figured it out, hm? Must be, since it's been over 2 months when the trouble began. I guess you got your solution... whatever that may have been...

SOURCE: Zune freezes on black screen
I just had this problem. Try an emergency restart. Hold down the <- arrow button (the button on the left) while pressing the up button on the pad. Hold untill it until the zune symbol comes on screen. Hopefully that will fix it, thats what I did...

SOURCE: keeps freezing and gets hot
The freezing itself is most likely due to friction and heat created in the hard drive inside the Zune. The excessive heat you feel is probably due to the same problem.
I would suggest (if you are tech savy) opening the Zune (you can look up instructions easily) and cleaning out any dust you see inside the case. There COULD be a battery issue, so making sure the insides are clean and dust free is the first step!
You can use a small can of compressed air (available at any best buy, office max, office depot, etc.) to gently clean out any particles or dust. Best of luck!
