Question about AppleWorks 6 for mac

How do I open an Appleworks Draw (.cwk) in Mac OS X 10.5.6

I wrote 3 music theory books that are geared towards the VERY YOUNGEST beginner and/or the child w/ Special Needs, which were written COMPLETELY & TOTALLY in Appleworks Draw!! These books are more Graphics than text so a converter that just takes and pulls the text our of my .cwk document won't do me ANY GOOD!! The 3 books that I have already written are only 3 out of a set of 4 and the 4th book in the series is due in 4 weeks!!

Long Story Short... I NEED A RELIABLE WAY OF OPENING and some way of editing these files whether it is within the same app that opens the .cwk file or if it is via a Save As Option. I and my co-author spent litterally THOUSANDS OF HOURS creating very detailed graphics for these books and I REALLY REALLY DON'T HAVE TIME (or the necessary reference copies) TO REDO THESE GRAPHICS!!

PLEASE HELP!!

Thank You VERY MUCH for your help!!

AppleWorks was a great program. I miss some of it's features. But there isn't anything that is going to open them up to edit them, other than appleworks. You need to convert them into something else that will work for you. I agree with the other solution that putting them into a PDF format would work. You could then open them with Adobe Illustrator, and convert them to that format.
I have heard that EazyDraw can open them, but I have not worked with it.
I know this may be a stale question, but I can offer my services to convert these files for you: jbarnhart@minespress.com

I don't actually see what the problem is here. If you created them in AW, then edit them in AW. That's what I do.

You should be able to open them and edit them in Appleworks.  Use Save As to save the changes so the original file will not be overwritten.  Once all the changes are made you can "print" them to a PDF file that is more universal for reading but cannot be edited easily.

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

I am working on a Mac 10.5.8 imac computer. I have used appleworks forever and dont want to let it go. EVERY time I start Appleworks 6 from the doc it crashes. I can open AW from another document but...

Appleworks is now a discontinued product and has been replaced by iWork. Its best if you start to learn how to use iWork instead since applework documents will have very limited compatibility.

I have many files in appleworks from a early version (10.6.4. which ran on an os 9 platform. I purchased a new i mac and can't open these files with snow leopard 10.6 using i works.

According to Apple, iWork can handle AppleWorks files
If you still have access to your OS 9 machine, make sure you've updated to the latest version of AppleWorks.

Appleworks support stopped at 10.4. Best thing I can tell you is to try NeoOffice or iWork.

How do I open a Word 97 format (doc) on my Mac?

Haven't used Mac in a while but I believe you have to
1) Save the attachments to your hard drive or desktop.
2) Start the TextEdit or AppleWorks application
3) (If Appleworks) Start the Word Processor app
4) Try "File-Open" and locate the file(s) you wish to open

And I/O error occurred when trying to open an Appleworks doc

That message in Pages means the file is not an AppleWorks 6 file, possibly AppleWorks 5. Are you using the same version? Not all are backward compatible, or require you to have the compatibility pack installed.

I have apple works 6.0 on my older iMac. Is there

No, Its a copyright (r) cd. Which obviously means you can't copy it. And if you did it would be illegal. Im not accusing you or anything, I'm just giving my solution.
Sorry for an inconvenience...
Good Luck

Error -37

Hi, sorry you are having problems,
Well, here is what error -37 is: Code: error -37 bdNamErr Description: Bad file name (File System Error)
Basically, it is saying you cannot save a file by that name in that place....
Did you try saving it elsewhere on your Mac, like on the desktop ?
Just a side note, Apple stopped development on AppleWorks some time ago ( 3 years ) in favour of iWork. I highly recommend getting the newest version of iWork 09, it's compatible with all your Works documents and is really built for MacOS X 10.5, Leopard.
What do you mean whe you say “ Before I reimaged the machine ..” ?
