SOURCE: sony compact AV SYSTEM DAV-S400

Hi Joey - I had exactly the same problem.

In my case, I followed the advice of others and took the thing apart. On the main amp board there is a large brown capacitor. Mine had come completely loose, so I soldered it back in place with a good amount of solder to make sure the contacts were ok. I also dabbed some solder on the headphone connectors on the same board (just follow the wire from the headphone socket to the board). Well, when I put it back together and tried it again everything worked perfectly, and it has so far remained free from the error. Hope that helps !

SOURCE: Sony DVD Home Theater System remote control code

I have the same system and one of my dogs got to the remote. I have a philips PMDVR8/PDVR8 universal remote. I was able to get the dav-hdx265 to turn on/off and do volume up and down by using code 0200. I have not been able to get the DVD functionality to work yet, but I will post if I do.

SOURCE: no sound from back surround speakers

I resolved the problem by going in the dec mode (page 49 of manuel) and changing the setting to Pro Logic. That did the trick. Good Luck all.

SOURCE: power protector on sony surround sound system

Power protect is an error message that some thing is wrong in your sound system and requires qualified tech.

Normally that error message appears when unit got problem in amplifier output section, either it is speaker problem or some output chip is fried.

Where Can I Get a Cheap Remote for a Sony AVD_K800P. I Paid $10 Dollars for the Sony AVD_K800P . and I would like to get a Remote that works with it That Can Turn up The Rear Speakers , and Work Vol

I know of a Sony brand learning remote that will do it but, it sells at Target for $29.99. I have 2 of them and works great for all equipment however, the problem with that is that you actually need the original remote to assign keys or buttons on this one. It does have factory settings for various Sony equipment programmed from the factory. I'm looking in the manual now to see if that player is listed. I can't find the actual model but, there are several Sony model surround amps that it will operate with the code listed. This remote is only a couple of years old and runs all my oddball stuff I couldn't get remotes or codes for. Sony models usually have settings for their own stuff built in. The remote is called a RM-VL610 Integrated Remote Commander if you're interested in trying it. It works my old Sony stereo 60 cd changer unit with no problems. This could help unless you order the original remote in which I can help find if you need but, would probably cost more.

Sony surround sound

Protect on a sony usually means there is a problem in the amp section. On that model, it would probably need to have the entire amp pcb replaced.

5.1 Surround sound not working

Maybe the surround processor is having a bad day... My kenwood would do similar and a reset was necessary to correct. Have you tried resetting the system? On my Sony STR DE 597 this is accomplished by powering off. Then while holding the 2 channel button down (front face plate) power on. A reset message is displayed. Your model may be similar but check your manual or download the PDF of the manual from Sony's support website. Hope this helps

Surround Sound from PS3

Are you getting any sound?

If your marantz amp is part of a home cinema system then depending how old it is will depend on if it will do it automatically.I have just bought a sony surround system and it detects the signal range ie it knows it is being transmitted in 5:1 surround. If you have an old system you may have to do this manually, this should not be diffecult there should be a sound setting.

Movie freezes, skips.

Does sound like the laser. Realitically, not worth repairing. I'd say you'd be worth connecting a cheap DVD player to the system - then the Sony can carry on providing the surround sound audio and the new DVD player can provide the video. Then, if the cheap DVD player is still going, it can move to a bedroom TV if and when you replace the surround system....

Otherwise, I would imaging the speaker set (and even the non-working DVD player) on its own might fetch a reasonable price on an auction site - anyone who has a stolen DVD unit will probably be desparate for the speakers as Sony don't sell them separately!
